Here’s what has happened
to the price of your electricity
from our first day in business
until today.
What’s happened is that you’re getting more than
four times as much electricity for your dollar as our
customers did in 1927.
Back then, our average residential price for a
kilowatt-hour was 7.6 cents. Today it’s 1.8 cents.
That’s almost 20 percent below the nation’s average.
As the price of electricity was going down, your
use of it was climbing. You’ve kept us busy building
to serve increasing demands. This year’s construc
tion will cost $457 l /i million, most of it borrowed
at high interest rates.
Interest isn’t the only thing that’s gone up. So
have wages. Fuel. Construction materials. We’ve
worked very hard to increase efficiency and absorb
rising costs, but we can’t beat ba :k inflation forever.
Eventually, inflated costs and the added expense of
environmental protection must be reflected in the
fair price of electric power.
But count the ways electricity works for you.
And take another look at the price. Electricity is
the biggest bargain in your family budget. Any day.
