LETTER TOTHE

DEAR EDITOR:
Businessmen, Workingmen,
Men of all walks of life cre
ate needs for Law Enforcement.
Unsatisfactory Interactions be
tween people create the need
for Law Enforcement Officials.
The Citizens have realized the
need for Policemen to enforce
the Law by allocating funds
to pay their salary in the form
of Taxes and other revenues.
Therefore, the taxpayer would
be indirectly the employer of
the Policemen.
Hopefully, the Police Officer
knows how to function, How
to carry out his duties and ex.
actly what he has been hired
to do. Therefore, we may
assume that when a Policemen
offers himself to a City for
hire as such, he professes to
be an Officer of the Law, not
a Professional Lawyer, Phys,
clan, Social Director, Sales,
man or Physcologist. It would
be hard to conceive that a per.
son of that many Professional
talents would call himself sim.
ply, a Law Enforcement Off
icial. Afterall, a Lawyer may
give his client Aspirin for a
head ache, a student may sell
an advertisement for a year
book, in fact we all at some,
time or another carry out min
or practices of Doctors, Law
yers, Phsycologist, Salesman
etc. , but how many times do
we make an arrestor enforce
the Law?
We all have the power of
of Citizens arrest, but how
many people have ever used it?

In one day either. Are the
Law breakers in Nahunta that
serious to deal with, or, are
the petty violations being made
into monsterous porportions
while major issues are shun
ned? This is a question we
must ask, when the Local Of
ficer stops a person for a
violation is he Courteous, or
Haughty full of brass and pro.
gnant? Is he selective about
the location he stops a sub
ject. Is it on a City street
or the middle of a local Bus.
iness Driveway, or in a res
taurant where people are eat-
Ing-
Let us all hope that Law
Enforcement Officials are
PROUD of their JOBS but let
us also hope they realize that
they are paid by the City for
their duties and not Author
ized by God, to do as they
please. A Law can be flexi.
ble to a persons own discre
tion, let us hope if the citi
zen bends to comply with a
minor Law, that the Officer
does not remain staunch, as
if he were dealing with a bank
robber.
As we may observe, the new
Police Officers are not as pop
ular with the citizens of Na
hunta as past Officers has been.
The Chief , However, has done
an outstanding job cooperating
with City and Council Officials
and being courteous to local
residents. The unpopularity
and malice felt toward the City
Officials and Police Dept, by
a vast majority of residents
is from new additions to the
Police Force who try to be
too many things besides Po
lice Officers.
