Hickox
The Hickox Extension Home
makers club met at the home of
Mrs. Dewey Hickox on Tuesday
afternoon, May 23.
Plans were made for cake
bake sale to be held Saturday
to help 4-H Council with play
ground project. Discussion
was on playground planning
meeting on May 31.
Mrs. Virginia Raulerson
gave a demonstration on free
zing vegetables. Importance
of blanching and correct pack
aging was stressed. A met
hod demonstration was present,
ed - this included preparation
for three types of squash dish
es: split in half for baking
or broiling, for stewing or
casseroles, and for sliced fr
ied squash.

drix, Mrs. Janie Brand, Mrs.

ket he weighed Seven Pounds

Death! & Funeral!
MRS. RUBY STRICKLAND WAINRIGHT
Mrs. Ruby Strickland Wain
right of Route 4, Waycross
passed away early Sunday Af
ternoon, May 28, at Memorial
Hospital in Waycross follow
ing a short illness and her
death brings personal sorrow
to a host of relatives and fr
iends throughout this and other
sections of the state.
Mrs. Wainright was born in
Wayne, now Brantley County,
and was the daughter of the
late Albert A. and Agnes Dow
ling Strickland. She received
her education in the Public
schools and was a member of
the Emerson Park Baptist Ch
urch in Waycross. For a
number of years, she and her
husband operated a grocery
store in the Lulaton Comm
unity. She had resided in
Ware County for the past 6
years.
Survivors include her hus
band, Dan W. Wainrightof Way
cross; one daughter, Mrs. Shir
ley W. Christian of Waycross;
a son-in-law, G.M. Christian of
Waycross; one sister, Mrs.
J. H. Highsmith of Nahunta; four
brothers, Elroy Strickland,
Avery Strickland, and Julian

Mrs. Lila Crews visited sev
eral days with Mr. and Mrs.
Frank Brady and family of
Statesville, N.C., and attended
their 25th wedding anniversary
the 21st. of May.
Mrs. Brady will be remem-
bered as Virginia Crews, dau
ghter of Mrs. Crews and the
late Mr. Irvin Crews of
Nahunta.
Mrs. Crews also visited Mr.
and Mrs. B.M. Hinson of Col
umbia, S.C. She returned home
Sunday May 28.
Cemetery
To Be Cleaned
Mr. T.V. Rhoden reports that
a Cemetery working will be
held Saturday , June 10th. He
asks everybody to come that
can and bring tools to work
with.

The Service Men in the Ce
metery's around the Waynes
ville area were not forgotten
this year on Memorial Day.
Mrs. Julia Gibson and Mrs.
Bobby King placed a Flag by
each Grave.
There were Ten Service Men
in the Highsmith Cemetery.
Three in the Old Baptist
Cemetery, three in the Pil
grim’s Rest Cemetery and Two
in the Wiggins Cemetery.
Eight Service Men in The
Masonic Cemetery ( colored)
and Two Colored Service Men
in the McDonald Cemetery.
Every Service Man was re
membered, the color made no
difference.

nter members will hold a meet
ing Monday June 5, at 8: P.M.
in the Community Center.
BAPTIST
PLANS BIBLE
SCHOOL
Vacation Bible School is si
ated to start at the First Ba
ptist Church in Nahunta, on
June 5 thru June 9 for pre
schoolers and children through
age 11. Bible School for
youths, ages 12 thru 17 will
start June 12. and last through
June 16. Both secessions of
Bible School will begin at 6:30
in the evening and last until
9:30.
A Bible School Parade is
scheduled for June 3 at 3:00.
Children and parents are urged
to attend.

ach, Fla.
Also surviving are several
nieces, nephews and other rel
atives.
Funeral services were held
at 4:00 p.m. Tuesday from the
Nahunta Baptist Church with
the Rev. Ernest S. Purcell
and the Rev. Marvin Smith
officiating.
The body lay in State In the
Church for one hour prior to
services.
Interment followed In the
family plot in Smyrna Ceme
tery.
Serving as casketbearers
were the Messrs. Keith Strick
land, Glen Strickland, Jimmy
Wainright, Marlon Wainright,
Parnell Highsmith and Dr.
Wade Strickland.
The many beautiful floral
tributes attested to the esteem
felt for the deceased.
The family has the sympathy
of their many friends in their
bereavement.

Home of Nahunta was in char
ge of arrangements.
Honors Day

The B.C.H.S. cafetorium was
the setting for Honors Day wh
ich was held May 29 at 8:30 a.m.
This special program began
with the Senior March. The Rev,
Cecil Thomas then gave the in
vocation. Both the American
flag and the Georgian flag were
carried through the caforium as
Mr. John C. Herdon, Master of
Ceremonies, gave a resltation
on the history of these flags.
The highlight of this spec
ial event was the giving of a
wards. Mr. Andrew Sutton, Mr.
Wayne Seaman, Mr. M.H. Mc-
Graw, and several of the fac
ulty members presented cert,
ificates, awards, and trophies
for outstanding achievements
made during the school year.
Miss Karen Hendrix, Editor of
the yearbook, gave the 1972
Heron dedication. Mr. John C.
Herndon, Senior sponsor, rece-
Ived this special honor as well
as the “Teacher of the year”
award, which was presented by
Miss Brenda Johns.
Special guest for the occasion,
were Mrs. Mable R. Moody,
county school superintendent;
Mr. C.D. Gibson, Chairman of
the Board of Education; Mr.
Goldwire Flower, Member of
the Board of Education, Mr.
Wayne Seaman, and Mr. M.H.
McGraw.

of marriage and birth are now
acceptable, under a regulation

ments of marriages and births
to be supported by formalized
documentary evidence.
A certified statement is ac
ceptable also regarding the bir
th of a child of a veteran’s
marriage, and as proof of age
and relationship, Tate said.
