MAKE LAUNDRY CARTS
When your TV trays are old
and battered, remove the tray
and keep the folding leg bases.
Make a bag of light-weight
canvas and sew it to the top
rims of the TV tables. Presto, a
laundry cart! Stands with
wheels are especially handy.
You’ll have a light-weight
laundry stand and you can use
two or three at one time as you
divide your clothes.
New Medicaid System
Reduces Budget sls Million
ATLANTA (PRN)
Georgia Medicaid claims have
been cut more than $1
million, and the overall
Medicaid budget has been
reduced some $15.7 million
since the state initiated a new
system for reviewing claims a
year ago.
Dr. F.W. Dowda, president
of the Georgia Medical Care
Foundation, Inc., which
conducts “peer review” of
payment claims for medical
service, hospitalization and
nursing home care, said
Thursday the situation as
fiscal 1972 nears its end is a
dramatic contrast to the end
of fiscal 1971.
Last June saw threats of
drastic curtailment of
Medicaid services and a
scramble for additional funds,
as Medicaid costs soared some
76 percent over the year
before.
Dr. Dowda anticipated the
increase for the year ending
June 30 will be less than 13
percent.
“We belive the'peer review’
system has proven to be
eminently successful and has
resulted in substantial savings
in tax dollars without
impairment of health services
to Medicaid participants,” he
said.
Medicaid is a state-federal
program providing free
medical care, hospitalization,
nursing home service and
prescription drugs for persons
on welfare and other low
income individuals.
Dr. Dowda said credit for
holding down costs should be
shared by the Georgia
Legislature, the Health
Division of the State
Department of Human
Resources, the Foundation
and the providers of health
services - physicians, hospital
administrators, nursing home
operators and pharmacists.
Anticipaing more efficient
use of state and federal
Medicaid funds after only
seven months of the “peer
review” program, the General
Assembly in February reduced
the fiscal 1972 Medicaid
budget from $157.4 million to
$141.7 million; but Dr.
Dowda said 11 -month figures
indicate payments for the full
fiscal year ending June 30
likely will be even less than
that.
Dr. Dowda said the review
of an average of some 15,000
medical, hospital and nursing
home claims each month
through May has resulted in a
total of $1,032,000 in specific
reduced or disallowed claims.
He estimated that at least
another $lO million in
Medicaid costs had been saved
as a result of awareness by
doctors and administrators of
the new claim review
mechanisms and guidelines
that are a part of “peer
review.” These guidelines
screen the number of monthly
doctor visits and prescriptions
and the length of hospital
stays for various illness. They
also provide a better insight
into the level of nursing home
care needed.

GEORGIA EGG COMMISSION
ATLANTA (PRN) — What in the world is an Omelet
Workshop? An Omelet Workshop is when everyone gathers
together from everywhere for fellowship, fun, and omelet
cooking. The Omelet Workshop made its debut in Washington,
D.C. for the Congressional Club, but the big Georgia kick-off
was June 9 at the capitol with Governor Jimmy Carter leading
the festivities. Surrounding Governor Carter were twelve
Georgia beauties, contestants for the Miss Georgia Poultry
Princess contest, and a multitude of eager omelet samplers.
Everyone was cooking their own omelet, some of the omelet
chefs were professionals, but quite a few were cooking them for
the first time. People were exclaiming, “I can’t imagine how I
cooked this omelet, it was so easy, quick, and delicious.” During
the introduction to Omelet cooking, the chefs learned that there
was no limit to what one could put in an omelet. If your
favorite food is sausage, hashbrowns, or peaches, why not try it
in your next omelet? Omelets are perfect for breakfast, brunch,
luncheons, supper, desserts, and snacks.
The Georgia Egg Commission’s Omelet Workshop will be
traveling all over Georgia for people that would really like to
learn how to make an omelet and enjoy the Golden Goodness of
Georgia Eggs. Wherever a group gathers, the Georgia Egg
Commission will be glad to make arrangements for an Omelet
Workshop. Have you ever thought about having an Omelet
Workshop for your next civic or church group, or any other
organization’s program? The Georgia Egg Commission would be
pleased to make omelets with your group any place and at any
time - morning, noon, or night. Please write or call to make
your arrangements for an Omelet Workshop. We are waiting to
hear from you at the Georgia Egg Commission, Georgia State
Farmers’, Forest Park, Georgia 30050 or call 404-363-0330.
