MAKING PEOPLE
LIKE YOU
Have you ever wondered
why some people are liked by
nearly everyone they meet?
Usually because they work
at it—even though their effort
may not be apparent to you.
They are the ones who take
the extra trouble to get a
stranger’s name right, to re
member a co-worker’s birth
day, to telephone or write
thanks for a favor.
But many people, in their
eagerness to be liked, make
the worng kind of effort.
They strive too hard to make
a good impression.
Don’t be so busy
putting yourself across that
you neglect to give the other
fellow the recognition he
craves. If you want to be
really well-liked, make sure
that your words and actions
convey this simple message:
“I recognize and am interes
ted in you.”
Give your conversation a
you-angle by bringing the
other person into the picture
when you talk about your
self. A surefire ego-booster is
to tell the other person, “I
thought of you when I did
this, or saw that.”
It takes only a little
thought and effort for you to
project the image of a person
that everyone likes to have
around.

Gambrell Tried To Gut
Justice, Vandiver Says
ATLANTA (PRN) -
Former Gov. Ernest Vandiver
charged last week that Sen.
David Gambrell tried to gut
the state’s method of electing
judges when he was president
the Georgia Bar Association.
“While he was president of
the Georgia Bar Association,
he tried to ram through the
Georgia legislature a bill which
would have done away with
our present system of electing
judges in this state,” Vandiver
told the Airport Area Kiwanis
Club.
“He wanted to gut
Georgia’s judicial system,
which has worked so well for
us and has been rough on
criminals, and move it toward
the federal system, which
coddles criminals and punishes
decent citizens by busing their
children,” Vandiver added.
The U.S. Senate candidate
blasted last week’s U.S.
Supreme Court decision
throwing out the death
penalty and also its earlier
decisions in favor of busing.
Os the latest decision, he
said: “This is a further
indication of the leftward drift
that this country is taking.
“With crime on the
increase, drug usage rampant
and women being pulled off
the street and raped, this is a
terrible time for the court to
make such a decision.
“I hope that when the
composition of the court is
changed further, this foul
decree will be changed.
Something has to be done to
stop crime. This will only
increase it.”
Vandiver said that after he
is elected to the U.S. Senate,
he will introduce legislation
which should correct these
“deplorable situations and get
us out from under this
despotic federal rule.
‘'This legislation would
require that federal judges be
reconfirmed every six years by
the U.S. Senate, or they would
be fired.
“This would provide a
means for the people, through
their elected senators, to bring
a halt to this unbridled
trampling of our rights.
“This will bring an end to
the joy which shook this

Gambrell Refuses To
Support Sen. McGovern
ATLANTA (PRN) - The
following telegram was sent by
U.S. Senator David Gambrell
to Senator George McGovern
regarding the McGovern
democratic candidacy:
“Your refusal to agree to
equalization of civil rights
enforcement in Georgia and
other southern states with
other sections of the country
makes it impossible for me to
support you for the
presidency, even if you should
be nominated at the
Democratic Convention in
Miami, and regardless of what
stands you take on other
issues on which we disagree.
The position which you
took on this question during
your recent visit to Atlanta
was nothing but sheer political
hypocrisy, because you know
that the balance of the
country would never accept
voter’s rights and school
busing requirements such as
those which are being
enforced upon Georgia people.
I have done all in my power
both as democratic senator
and prior to that as chairman
of the Democratic Party in
Georgia, to unify the
Democratic Party at the
national level so that we could
win the 1972 national
election. But as I advised you
last February, the National
Democratic Party and its
candidates would have to
cease unjust discrimination
against the South in civil rights
ERNEST VANDIVER
country’s prisons when the
murderers, rapists and robbers
got the word on the court’s
decision.
“This would put that man
from Savannah where he
belongs. He was convicted of
forcing his way into the home
of a young woman who was
caring for her baby. He put a
scissors to her throat and
raped her. But now the
Supreme Court has said he
can’t be electrocuted.
“Another man in Savannah
fired a pistol through a door
and killed a young Coast
Guardsman, but now the
Supreme Court has said he
could go free in a few
years instead of being put to
death as he should be for
killing another human being
needlessly.”
Vandiver charged that
Gambrell’s actions as bar
association president is typical
of “all these wild-eyed,
knee-jerk liberals who think
that the people are stupid and
decisions should not be left up
to them.
“My friends, we have got to
use the ballot box to take the
political power in this country
away from the appointed
senators, the George
McGoverns and the
black-robed federal judges and
return it to the people where
It belongs ...
“I trust the people.”
SEN. GAMBRELL
enforcement matters. Neither
you nor the Platform
Committee have met this
requirement. Therefore you
do not merit my support.
It is with regret that I have
arrived at this decision for I
regret to see democrats who
badly need unity, continuing
to be split and splintered. But
that has been your choice - all
I have asked is to be treated as
others are.”
Signed,
David H. Gambrell
U.S. Senator from
the State of Georgia.
