TO THE CITIZENS OF
BRANTLEY COUNTY
As predicted, during the past few weeks a political opponent
for Office of Chairman County Commission , Post No. 1,
has been attacking my name. The attack has been for appar
ent political gain.
The opponent has said that I drink entire! 1 ' too much whis
key. My reply is , Ido not drink whiskey. I don’t like it.
He said that I run around with married women. That is
not true.
He is attacking me personally because as a County Comm
issioner, I have done no wrong. It’s true that I have failed
to do some things however, I have not deliberately done any
wrong.
- THE COUNTY RECORDS STAND FOR THEMSELVES •
- THEY ARE AVAILABLE FOR ANYONE'S INSPECTION -
We, the Taxpayers of Brantley County are completely
out of debt. Since I took office, the county has paid off
it’s $93,000.00 indebtedness. Is that why lam being
attacked?
Millage for County Taxes is still at 12.4 mills. It has
been the same for 4 years. Is this why lam being att
acked?
Two trucks and a new motor grader has been purchased
and paid for. Is this why lam accused of running around
with married women?
11.041 miles of paving contracts has been completed since
I took office. Is that why I am being accused of drinking
too much whiskey?
13.986 miles of paving is under way right at this time. Is
this why I am being attacked?
74.06 miles of re-surfacing has been requested and approved.
Is this why I am being personally attacked?
29.7 miles of roads are scheduled for paving. Could this
be why I am being attacked?
Good, accurate, and properly kept books are now main
tained in the Office of the County Commission.
As Chairman of your County Commission, I have set up
and maintained a full time office since I took office on
1 January, 1969. Never before has this been done.
Additional charges against me have been started during the
past few days. The charges consist of me not taking care of
my father and me attempting to take his property along with
property belonging to my deceased uncle.
The charges are wrong. The charges are as ascinine as the
other charges. They all are designed to bring discredit on
me and apparently for political purposes.
In this political campaign, I have said nothing against Mr.
Herrin nor my other political opponents. Every thing said
about them was respectful. Other than Mr. Herrin, I feel
they are honorable men. Honorable men do not make such
ridiculous charges unless they are documented.
Were I a dishonorable man I may try to bring discredit
upon Mr. Herrin by spreading maliciously the following;
1. Why did Mr. Herrin get his neck or back broken?
What was his physical condition at this time? Was he
entirely too drunk on entirely too much whiskey? Did
he fall out the steps of his fish club house or did his
wife push him?
2. If his wife pushed him out was it because of fooling
around with a girl young enough to be his daughter or
could it have been for hiring a woman from Atlanta, Ga.
for a price of $ 100.00 per day to attend the Convention
in Brunswick with him and his friends ?
3. Why does Mr. Herrin charge taxpayers money for the
use of the copy machine in his office while he lets friends
and political cronies use it for free?
The candidate who is attacking me personally has something
to hide from the public. It shall be told II! Only facts and each
fully documented will be shown to the public. These documented
facts will show everyone the true nature of this man.
The public should ask themselves this question. Is this man
to be entrusted with the public tax money?
