Veterans
Corner
The Veterans Administration
today posed to veterans the
question, “ Would your Sur
vivors know what benefits are
entitled to in the event of your
death?”
“ If not, they should,” A.W.
Tate, Director, Atlanta Veter
ans Administration Regional
Office , advised.
Too often the veteran and
his wife discuss this subject,
placing an unnecessary burden
on survivors in times of great
emotional stress, Tate pointed
out.
Not only should the vetean
and his wife discuss the lo
cations of importantfamily doc
uments, they should make sure
the papers are protected from
fire and theft, yet readily ac
cessible. Survivors should al
so be briefed on what to do in
case of the veteran’s death,
Tate emphasized.
The veteran’s family should
be told of survivor’s benefits
’ such as dependency and indem
nity compensation for service
connected death, and of non
service - connected death pen
sion for widows and for child
ren where a widow is ineligi
ble of her income.
Attention was also called to
the $250 burial allowance a
vailable for veterans of
wartime service and those who
served since August 5, 1964
as well as certain veterans of
peacetime service.
Tate further stressed that
G. L insurance policy num
bers, VA “ C ” numbers for
all correspondence with the
agency, commercial insurance
policies, social security num
bers and naturalization papers
are all important in claiming
survivor benefits.
Veterans service organize,
tions as well as all VA of
fices can be of immeasurable
assistance in times of death,
Tate added.

Facts On Appliances Are
Important To Performance
ATLANTA (PRN) -
Manufacturers took a good
look at the washbasket when
they drew up design plans for
new models of LP-gas dryers.
The fabric world’s remarkable
“durable press” was the
reason.
Slacks and shirts, sheets
and draperies now have
finishes that are baked or
cured so the item comes out
of the washer and dryer as
crisp as new. Durable press has
gone a step farther than
wash-and-wear. The latter
usually needed a touch-up
from the iron, but durable
press needs no ironing at all.
In fact, creases are so sharp
they can’t be removed.

For good performance,
however, the clothes should be
machine dried. Tumbling in
the controlled heat of an
automatic LP-gas dryer relaxes
the fibers and banishes the
wrinkles formed at body
temperature. Several new
dryers have special cycles for
durable press items. Other
manufacturers advise
housewives to use the
wash-and-wear cycle and to
remove the clothing items as
soon as the dryer stops.
When selecting an LP-gas
dryer, it’s best to choose a
model that has the same
capacity as your washer. Make
sure it will fit the space you
have available for it.
