good news: 250 years ago in
France, she would have been
considered a thrilling beauty.
The Marquise de

extremely close with Louis

his day the most powerful
ruler in all Europe.
The painting, which hangs
in Munich, Federal Republic
of Germany, is one of the
favorites of German art
lovers. Professor Steingraber,
general director of Munich’s

“incarnation of the highly re

the Rococo era’s brilliant joy

Takes Issue
With Gambrell
ATLANTA (PRN) - Sam
Nunn has taken sharp issue
with Sen. David Gambrell for
not voting on the
military-foreign aid bill, saying
that he was “amazed that our
appointed senator has missed
two more key votes in
Washington.
Nunn, 33, the
farmer-lawyer from Perry who
is campaigning hard for the
U.S. Senate, declares that
Gambrell is “still a non -
voting senator.”
Nunn called the bills “very
important measures; No. 1,
the vote on whether to
withdraw our troops from
Vietnam, and No. 2, the vote
on the crucial foreign aid
program which all of us think
needs revamping.”
The Senate voted 48-42 to
kill the $l.B billion foreign aid
measure, after a
troop-withdrawal amendment
(from Vietnam) was written
into the bill.
Nunn noted that the troop
withdrawal amendment was
called by Sen. John Stennis,
D-Miss., “an amendment that
could scuttle the Paris peace
talks, and could have a bearing
on ending this war.” Stennis is
chairman of the Senate Armed
Services Committee, once
chaired by the late Sen.
Richard Russell of Georgia.
Nunn again reiterated that
he would make his “No. 1
priority” the gaining of a seat
on the armed services
committee, and added: “I
have been assured that my
chances of receiving that
important assignment are
excellent.”
“Our appointed senator has
not been voting for sometime,
for a long time, and we have
been pointing this out,” Nunn
said. “I feel that the prime
duty of a senator should be in
Washington, D.C., and when I
am elected to the United
States Senate, I am going to
take care of my business in
Washington.”
Nunn said that “people of
goodwill can disagree as to
which way a person can vote,
but I think all of us in Georgia
want to be represented in
Washington - we want our
senators to be there . . .and to
vote.”
fJing golfer
BY TOM EASTERN
Jack Nicklaus
Golf stars from all over the
world have been invited to
participate in the 1972 West
chester Golf Classic and
challenge defending cham
pion Arnold Palmer for the
$250,000 in prizes in this, the
“World’s Most Charitable
Sporting Event.”
The Classic, sponsored by
Eastern Airlines, will take
place at the Westchester
Country Club in Harrison,
New York,beginning August
10 with the final two rounds
Saturday and Sunday, August
12 and 13, televised nation
ally via the Hughes Sports
Network.
In addition to the inter
national stars, the field of
150 will include virtually all
of the American “names”,
headed by Jack Nicklaus, the
leading money-winner of all
time.
An interesting point, of
which Arnold Palmer will be
very much aware, is that no
golfer has won the West
chester more than once.
Nicklaus came closest to re
peating in the winner’s circle
with second place finishes in
1968 and 1970,after winning
the inaugural event in 1967,
and it is a good bet that he
will be at or near the top of
the list when this year’s tour
nament reaches its climax on
August 13.
Also, again this year, six
area hospitals will benefit
from the proceeds of the
tournament. $1,500,000 had
been raised in the five
previous Classics.
