Bill Stuckey
In Washington
I am very concerned about the increasing taxes on property.
From 1967 to 1970 property taxes jumped by 35 percent.
The burden of this increase is felt by the homeowners in our
district. And, it has been overwhelming for great numbers of
older people who have to live on fixed incomes.
Surely no one would deny the importance of our school sys
tems which receive these tax dollars. But something's got to give.
People who saved tor years to own their own home are being
driven out. They can't continue to bear up under the burden of
these ever increasing taxes.
I am looking into the possibility of introducing a bill which
would provide for the equalization of school taxes. If you are
struggling with high property taxes I hope that you will let me
hear from you on this issue.

Caldwell Sets
Hearings For
Insurance Co.
ATLANTA (PRN)
Comptroller General Johnnie
L. Caldwell has ordered
representatives of the Hartford
Accident and Indemnity
Company to appear at a
hearing to show cause why
they should not be ordered to
cease and desist certain
business practices, have their
license suspended/revoked, or
be fined.
Charged with engaging in
unfair or deceptive acts or
practices, Hartford officials
will appear before Insurance
Commissioner Caldwell at
9:00 a.m. on September 12,
1972, in room 238 of the
State Capitol.
“Hartford is specifically
charged with attempting to
raise an automobile insurance
premium after an insurance
policy had already been issued
and rates had been established
and paid,” Caldwell said. “The
company then issued a
non-renewal for the next
anniversary date in retaliation
against the policy holder, who
merely had insisted on his
contract rights.”
“I don’t care how big the
insurance company is,” he
noted, “my primary duty is to
protect the citizens of Georg.a
and to create a healthy,
regulated environment for the
insurance industry to serve the
people.”
Caldwell promised to take
similar actions in other cases if
this practice is being used by
other companies.
