Drive Continuing
In Job Training
Plans For Vets
Atlanta — Veterans Service
specialists, continuing their in
tensive efforts to produce on
job training opportunities for
veterans, established 109 new
training programs during the
month of June. There are
now 1,107 such programs in
Georgia accommodating some
1,937 veterans.
Nationwide about 40,000
of these programs benefiting
approximately 75,000 veter
ans have been established
since the drive began nearly a
year ago.
Georgia Veterans Service
.Director Pete Wheeler ex
plained that the training is
conducted under the G1 Bill
in business, industry, public
agencies and other organiza
tions where trained personnel
are needed and where facili
ties for such training are avail
able.
The programs have been
developed as a result of can
vassing of employers by Vet
erans Service experts who sug
gest that G1 Bill training is a
way to meet employers’ needs
for skilled personnel and put
veterans on their payrolls.

Warning: Flood Damaged
Appliances Up For Sale
(GCS NOTE: With this issue. YOU AND YOUR DOLLAR becomes
BUYER BEWARE. GCS will continue to alert Georgia consumers on
buying pit falls and wise buying practices through this column. Anyone
with comments, questions or suggestions should call GCS via the Watts
Line, 1-800-282-8900.)
We’ve been hearing a lot about people selling cars
that were damaged in the recent flooding. Are people
selling any other flood damaged merchandise?
They certainly are, and
anyone making a major
purchase should check for
signs of flood damage.
Hurricane Agnes flooded
hundreds of thousands of
dollars worth of merchandise
stored in warehouses, at
loading docks and in stores,
and these damaged goods will
be showing up all over the
country for months to come.
This merchandise is being sold
piecemeal or in lots to just
about anybody that wants to
buy it at extremely low prices.
This is perfectly legal and
there are legitimate companies
that specialize in salvage. The
problem comes in when fast
buck operators buy damaged
merchandise, fix it up so that
it looks pretty and sell it to
unsuspecting buyers without
telling them that the
merchandise was involved in
the flood.
The two main things you
should look out for are
appliances and furniture. The
Major Appliances Consumer
Action Panel has notified
Georgia Consumer Services
that people should be
particularly on the alert when
buying refrigerators, washers
and dryers, stoves, air
conditioners and televisions.
When buying a major
appliance, check the following
points:
• Make sure that the serial
plate has not been removed.
• Examine the merchandise
inside and out for a water line.
• Check carefully to see if a
false back or paneling has been
put on the merchandise to
cover up water marks.
• Check any cavities that
might hold dirt, sediment or
water.
• Examine the merchandise
for any signs of rust or
corrosion, particularly at the
seams and where parts are
screwed on.
• Examine the merchandise
for any signs of buckling or
warping.
• Check any rubber parts for
stiffness or separation.
• Find our where the
merchandise was shipped
from.
• Ask for a warranty of at
least 90 days. Be very careful
if the seller tries to make you
accept an “As Is” contract.
• Trade with a reputable
well-known dealer. If you have
any doubts about the
purchase, check with Georgia
Consumer Services, the Better
Business Bureau and the
Chamber of Commerce before
going through with it.
If you are buying furniture,
check it carefully for water
marks, mildew, fabric decay,
warping, rust on metal parts
and any suspicious, musty
odors. (NOTE: In case of
furniture, you might be able
to get a good deal on flood
damaged merchandise, as some
of it would not be
permanently damaged by
water. The important thing is
to know whether it was in the
flood so that you can judge
whether the price is fair or
not.)
Finally, be careful if you
are buying a mobile home.
Many trailers were flooded,
and here your problems may
be doubled. Check the
furniture, appliances and the
body of the unit for signs of
flooding. Don’t forget to look
under the rugs and to check
the bottom of the mobile
home.

DR. GENE TUTEN of headaches, and industry has
bund that about one thud o( all employee absences is caused
by headaches. It is easy to understand why the simple head
ache” isn’t so simple and why it is such a drain on humanity.
Explained simply, headaches are the result of pressure
which continue to mount. The mounting pressure cause
tension which builds up in the glands and muscles, finally re
sulting in the headache pains.
Chiropractic adjustments, administered by the strong, com
petent hands of a skilled practitioner, releases the pres
sures caused by pinched nerves, eases the tensions and re
lieves pain fast.
The chiropractor, an expert in matters relating to the
spinal column and the body’s nervous system, locates the
source of pressure and effectively removes it by scientific
adjustments. Another Health and Life Article from the Of

Here's how to do it:
Put the pancake mix, oil, egg and milk in a bowl. Beat with an
egg beater. Grease a frying pan with margarine or salad oil and get
it very hot. Be careful, now...a big person has to help you with
this! Use a measuring cup to pour. Dip the cup into the batter.
Use a little less than 1/4 cup for each pancake. As you pour it,
pour it in the shape of a cat, or a dog, or a tree, or a bird or some
body you like. Let it brown on one side, then turn it over with a
pancake turner and let it brown on the other side. Serve it with
grape or any other flavor jam or preserves on top. This batter makes
about 12 little pancakes.
