COASTCROSS - ONE GRASS
WINTER SURVIVAL
Coast - one grass in Georgia
needs special attention if the
grass survives the winter and
has early spring growth.
No nitrogen fertilizer should
be applied to Coastcross . One
after the middle of August.
Soil phosphorus and potassium
should be maintained at leat
at a medium level, is another
recommendation.
Coastcross • one should not
be cut for hay after the middle
of September until immediately
after the first frost. The hay
cut immediately after frost is
usually good quality.
As why it should not be cut
for hay after mid September ,
new growth in the fall reduces
food reserves which increases
the winter kill on Coastcross •
one. Top growth that accumu
lates in early fall may be light
ly grazed, however.
Some stubble should be left
to give cold protection and to
keep the plants dormant, is an.
other recommendation regard
ing winter survival of Coast
cross-one. Call your County A
gent for more information about
Coastcross-one.

HOW TO GET LONG WEAR
FROM PANTYHOSE
GOOD CARE IS KEY!
Look over this list to see
if you are treating your hose
to the TLC they need to give
long service. Every question
you can answer with a “ yes ”
lowers the run, snag and tear
rate.
1. Are you careful putting
on and taking off pantyhose?
Pulling and tugging puts un
due stress on the material.
Sharp rings, ragged fingernails
starts to runs and tears. Wear
cotton or cosmetic gloves if
necessary. Wear the correct
size or the strain from too
short pair will cause popping
at the least provocation.

hose is to gather up a leg
portion all the way to the toe.
Slip foot in and pull gently
and smoothly up to the knee.
Repeat with the other leg. Then
ease over the knees, thighs
and hips to the waist. When
removing pantyhose, gently roll
downward from the waist and
ease feet out.
2. Do you wash stockings
in mild suds and lukewarm
water promptly after each
wearing ? Perspiration and
dirt deteriorate nylons and cut
life expectancy.
Wear gloves while washing
and rinsing, use a small mesh
bag, or shake them clean in
a tightly capped jar half •
filled with sudsy solution. Rin
se until water runs clear.
Avoid wringing, press out ex
cess moisture in a clean tow
el. Drape to dry away from
direct heat on a smooth rack
or plastic clothesline or hang
by toes with smoothedged plas
tic clothespins.
3. Do you have a separate
drawer or section of a drawer
for pantyhose and stockings ?
sides to protect from rough
wood or use plastic or card
board dividers if other items
are kept there too. While
somethings such as curlers and
jewelry can really snag sheer
fabric, smooth articles — lip
stick tubes, loose coins and

ble of “ bruising ” the nylon
thread.
4. Do you mate two pairs
with runs to make one pair
without runs ? Take two pair
of pantyhose, the same color,
each with damaged leg. Cut
away the useless leg sections
high up. Then roll and stitch
or use a closely set zigzag
machine stitch to “ seal ”
the raw edges. Worn together
you have a pair of stockings
with a double panty portion.
Os course, if the pantyhose are
the type that have fitted heels,
it will be necessary to have
the right and left side to com
bine.

Before accepting a free trip
to anywhere, you should
carefully investigate the
company that is offering it.
Know exactly what is required
of you if you accept the trip.
Get a copy of the brochure
that explains the requirements
of the Interstate Land Sales
Act, and make sure the
company abides by them.
Even if the company is not
dealing in interstate

tell you what you need to
know before you buy. GCS or
the Department of Housing

be happy to send you one.
Never buy land without
consulting your bank and a
competent lawyer. (Not the
one the company suggests; the
one you pick yourself.) Also,
check with the State Attorney
General’s Office and the local
District Attorney’s Office to
find out if the company may
be suspected of criminal

Shady Land Developers
Move In On Georgia
Georgia Consumer Services has received reports of
increased activity by unethical land developers, and
that more such companies plan to start operating in
the State.
Nearly everybody has been
invited to take a free trip to
look at land in the mountains
or on the beach at some time
or another. Some of these
offers are certainly legitimate,
and many people have had
good experiences in accepting
such trips. Others,
unfortunately, have been
pressured, bullied and even
strong-armed into buying
nearly worthless land.
In the current case, what
happened is this:
representatives of the
company distributed
certificates in stores which
people were to fill out in order
to “win” a free vacation.
When the company got the
form back, they notified the
person that he or she had won
a free trip. Then, when the
people got there, they were
subjected to an extremely
heavy sales pitch to buy land.
Also, in some cases, a so-called
free trip turns out not to be
free at all, as the people ended
up having to pay for their own
transportation and some of
their meals. Further,
sometimes hotels and
restaurants refused to honor
the coupons for free meals and
lodging that the company had
given the so-called winners.
As we said before, the sales
pitch is really heavy and hard
to resist. There are even cases
on record in which people had
to pay a fine if they missed
any of the sales meetings. In
still other cases, people have
been shown a beautiful, well
cared for lot, and made to
believe that it was the lot they
were buying. Then, in the fine
print, it turned out that the
lot they were shown was just a
“sample” lot and the property
they got the deed to was miles
away and unsuitable for
development.
that people don’t even have
access to sewage service. They
are just stuck with land they
can’t build on or do anything
else with.
