MINSTRELS UNABLE
TO CROSS THE RIVER
The J. C. O’Brien Georgi?
Minstrels, which were adver
tised to show hefe today,
met with a calamity at river
bridge just this side of Atkin
son, early this,morning, when
they attempted to drive their
loaded trucks throught the
swamp.
These trucks crossed the riv
er and and emerged into mud
which proved to be the boggy
sort of mud, and all turcks
and cars. were bedded in the
soft muck.
The management of this
show sent out word that one
hundred dollars would be giv
en to any who would pull the
trucks safely to harder ground
where they could get footing.
Within a short time mules
teams were taken to the scene
and hitched to a truck, but
alas, the mud was -not so easi
ly robbed of it’s victims and
soon a stump pulling outfit
was put in operation. This
worked very successfully un
til it was tried on the last one,
which had sank so far into
i the mud j that > all •efforts to
' IhoVe it WerC ‘ unsuccessful,
parties who went to scene
stated that the water rose 7
inches daring the day.
And thus it came about
that the great masses of peo
ple whom had assembled here
to witress the Minsterals
turned homeward about dark,
with disappointment stamped
in their faces.

$1.50 PER YEAR IN ADVANCB
Friday was a great day for
Nahunta, when people gather
ed from several of the neigh
boring counties, to discuss
good roads and the $75,000,-
000 State Bond Issue, with
our Brantley county folks.
Early in the day, automo*
biles arriving from all dirree
tions filled the street’s of the
little town of Nahunta, and
when the meeting was called
to order by Col. F. E. Twity,
chairman of the Pioneer Dis
trict of Georgia Good Road
Association, there were more
people than there vias room
to seat them. Many being un
able to get into the baptist
church where the meeting
was held.
After stating the object of
the meeting, the chairman,
introducted Representaive B.
E. Mann, who took special
care to go into all the road de
tails, and was followed by
Mrs. Capes, an active advo
cate of good roads. James C.
Vocelle, followed with an ex
ceptional strong plea for good
roads, after which many good
speakers sp©k* in behalf of
the building of good road§.
The following is what the
Brunswick Banner said in re
gard to the affair:
....“At the conclusion of
speaking the ladies of Brant
ley county served a most sum
ptuous dinner, picnic style,
which was throughly enjoyed
by the large gathering It
was the unanimous opinion
that Brantley’s hospitality has
not been surpassed by any of
her elder sisters and the day
spent there will longy be re
membered by her guests.”
