BANANA BREAD
People in every land like
bananas. In some countries
they are one of the chief
foods. Highly nutritious and
low in calories, they can be
eaten raw or cooked into
tasty dishes.
Shown here is a favorite
dish of Miss Chiquita’s —
freshly-baked banana bread.
It can be served at once or
stored in the freezer for a
delicious future treat. It is
easily prepared as follows:
1/3 cup shortening
2/3 cup sugar
2 eggs, slightly
beaten
1 3/4 cups sifted all
purpose flour
2 3/4 tsp. baking
powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1 cup mashed
Chiquita Bananas
(2-3)
Beat shortening until
creamy; or 2 minutes at
medium speed on mixer.
Gradually add sugar, beating
until light and fluffy after
each addition.
Add eggs and beat until
thick and pale lemon in color.
Sift dry ingredients. Add al
ternately with bananas. Blend
thoroughly after each addi
tion.
Grease bottom only of a 4
% X 8 ‘A inch loaf pan. Spoon
batter into the pan. Bake in
moderate (350°) oven for 60
to 70 minutes. Bread is done
when center springs back
when touched lightly with
fingers.
Let cool 20 minutes in pan
before turning onto rack.
Makes one loaf.

In describing the way a
man should conduct himself
the apostle Matthew wrote:
“Love your enemies, bless
them that curse you, do good
to them that hate you, and
. pray, for them which despite
fully use you, and persecute
you.”
According to the Bible, as
interpreted by famed theo
logian Dr. Oswald Hoffmann
of radio’s “The Lutheran
Hour,” “Prayer is an ad
mission of weakness, and
that’s the first step on the
road to power. . .Prayer does
things. It works.”
