VAN W. (SHOT) STRICKLAND
Mr. Van W. ( Shot ) Strick
land, Sr., 46, passed away early
Wednesday morning in the
Glynn Memorial Hospital
following a brief illness.
A native and life • long resi.
dent of Brantley County, he was
the son of Mrs. J.C. Strick
land, Sr. of Hortense and the
late Mr. Strickland.
A veteran of World War 11,
he was member of the Twin
Rivers Baptist Church where
he had served as choir dir
ector for a number of years.
A farmer, he was also a mem
ber of the CB Radio Club.
Survivors, besides his mo
ther, are his wife, Mrs. Ilene
Strickland of Hortense; a dau
ghter, Miss Ellen Marie Strick,
land of Hortense; three sons,
Van W., Jr., James D., and
Harry Allen Strickland, all of

a fish-fry at the home of Mr.
and Mrs. Huey R. Ham. Those

Navyman Robert F. Hoy. son
of Mr. and Mrs. Francis A.
Hoy of Route 2, Hortense, Ga.,
has reported for duty aboard
the aircraft carrier, the USS
Lexington, stationed at the U.S.
Naval Air Station, Pensacola,
Fla.
A former student of Brantley
County High School, he joined
the Navy in March, 1972.
Marine Pvt. Ronnie A.
Brauda, son of Mr. and Mrs.
N. A. Brauda of Hortense, Ga.,
graduated from basic training
at the Marine Corps Recruit
Depot at Parris Island, S.C.
He is a former student of
Brantley County High School,
Nahunta, Ga.

Services for Mr. Strickland
were held at 4:00 o’clock Thurs
day afternoon from the Twin
Rivers Baptist Church.
Officiating was the Pastor,
Rev. Robin Adams and Rev.
Bobby Brinkley.
Interment was In the Twin
Rivers Cemetery.

Friendship Homemakers Club
was held at the home of Mrs.
Olive Griffin.

ween carnival in the Hoboken
Elementary School Gymnasium
