approved July 28, 1925 ( Ga.
Laws 1925, p. 1273), as amend
ed, so as to change the date
of the municipal general elec
tion; to stagger the terms of
office of the mayor and aider
men; to change the provisions
relating to the election of the
mayor and aidermen and the
practices and procedures in
connection with such elections;
to provide forflllingvacancies;
to authorize the council to a.
dopt ordinances to regulate tr
affic; to change the compensa
tion of the mayor and alder men;
to extend the terms of office
of the mayor and aidermen in
office on July 1,1973; to pro
vide for other matters rela
tive to the foregoing; to pro

Set For Macon
MACON - According to
Georgia Veterans Service Di
rector Pete Wheeler, some 500
persons engaged in service to
veterans throughout the State
of Georgia are expected to
convene in Macon for the
1973 Service Officers’ School
which is sponsored each year
by the Georgia Department of
Veterans Service in coopera
tion with the state’s major
veterans’ organization, the
American Red Cross and the
Veterans Administration.
The four-day conference
will be held at the Macon-
Hilton Hotel beginning Tues
day, May 29 and continuing
through Friday, June 1, 1973.
Describing the school as
“the state’s major training
program for service officers
and department personnel,’’
Wheeler said, “It is most im
protant that we continue to
advise all of our people of the
changes in existing laws and
the interpretation of new leg
islation so that they might
better assist Georgia's more
than half-million veterans and
their dependents in obtaining
VA benefits.”

sponsored by the Coastal Plains
Regional Commission, the
Georgia Department of
Community Development and
the University System of Geor
gia. Conference topics will be
presented by speakers from 13

Topics for discussion during
the three-day meet will include
economic forces affecting
movement to rural areas; plant
location decision making;
corporate and community
viewpoints; regional cooper
ation by communities with
varying potentials; industry
and community problems after
a new plant is located; and
mobilization of the financial
community for rural industrial
ization. In addition, viewpoints
of industry, federal and local
governments, universities and
private interest groups will be
