Mr. and Mrs. Waters Sr.
say 'dream has come true’
The “grand opening” March
2 of Waters Ford Company is
another grand event in a
parade of many for Mr. and
Mrs. S. Monore Waters Sr.
Mr. Waters Sr., the com
pany’s namesake, saysthenew
building is a “longtime dream
come true and I’m so happy
to see it come true in my
lifetime.”
But, the well-known Blacks
hear citizen and his wife share
more than company dreams.
The are “blessed” with having
two sons in the company and
say they are most grateful
that the business afforded
them the means to allow all
ive of their children to re
ceive college degrees.
“That’s one thing no one
can take from my children
is their education,” Mr.
Waters said. And, the educa
tion of his two sons - Step
hen M. Waters Jr. and Milton
Waters is showing in the con
tinued growth of the company.
The sale of Ford trucks
and cars became under the
management of the Waters’
name in 1941 when Mr. Waters
Sr. became head. He was at
that time a traveling auditor
for the company’s original
founder, Mr. John H. King Jr.
and the late Mr. Russell King
of Waycross. The company
was founded in 1916 by the
Waycross men.

The former building on Main
Street was constructed in
1921 and operated by various
men until 1941 when Mr.
Waters Sr. became manager.
Only in 1968 did Mr. Waters
Sr. retire and turn the man
agement to his two sons.
Mr. Waters Sr. said he
enjoyed “overseeing” the
construction of the new build
ing. “It is a landmark of past
successes and a beacon toward

Retirement for Mr. Waters
Sr. means very few leisure
hours; for he continues to be
active in the civic and cul
tural growth of the city and

Friends often find Mr.
Waters Sr. in his rose gar
dens, playing golf or fishing
and hunting. He and Mrs.
Waters are members of the
Blackshear Presbyterian
Church where he has held
the position of elder.
Natives of Pierce County,
Mr. and Mrs. Waters lived
in Waycross in 1941 when he
first became company man
ager; then moved back to
Blackshear. Their home on
Main Street is an added lovely
feature of Blackshear’s re
sidential section.
Mrs. Waters is the former
Mildred Walker. She and Mr.
Waters’ children are: Step
hen Jr, Milton, Miss Marion
Waters of Miami, Fla., a
teacher, Mrs. Howard Leiter
of Columbia, S. C., secretary
to the chairman of tax com
missioners of South Carolina
and Miss Millie Waters, re
spiratory therapist and
assistant supervisor of the
therapy department at Craw
ford W. Long Hospital in
Atlanta.
