The Harris County FFA chapter has had a busy fall. The chapter finished the 2014 - 2015 school year in 2nd Place for Area III Chapter of the Year behind, Ola High School in Henry County. Students competed in events at the Central Region Rally in September. The Harris County FFA placed 2nd overall in the competitive events at the rally. In the FFA Floral Design competi tion freshmen Alana Cadena placed 6th and senior Camille Rodrick placed Sth. Senior Paul Strozier placed 13th in the FFA Tractor Driving competition. The Harris County Land Evaluation team judged land for its best use as crop, pasture, or forest land and the team of Dalton Jones, Addison Jones, Cody Lott, and Madison Oliver, placed 6th at the com petition held in Bleckley County. At the Georgia National Fair in October, many students received a 2nd place ribbon in their respective contests and a cash award including: Seth Neroski and Hunter Griffin in Small Wood Built Project, and Eric Rivers and Paul Strozier in Small Rebuilt Projects. Tremere Ash and Adrian Jenkins placed 3rd with then- Live Plants. Paul Strozier, Samie McKeen and Sethi Nerowski placed 2nd to advance to the state competition. Sami McKeen was the 2nd High Individual for the competition. At ABAC, Faith Pearson replaced Hannah Morgan and the team placed 7th in the state competition. 9th Grader, Rachel Barrett competed in the Area FFA Quiz competition at FVSU and placed 10th out of 36 com- : petitors. FOLLOWING the fair, members constructed a float for the Harris County High School Homecoming Parade with the Theme, “Welcome to DECEMBER began with a trip to Dublin, for the Central Region Livestock Evaluation competition. Spen Oliver, Lexi Bryan, Savanah Oliver and Wesley Williams placed 4th in the Junior Division and Nicole Bowden, Blair Morgan, Madison Oliver and Haley Bowen placed 11th in the Senior Division. Harris County FFA members headed back to Fort Valley State University for another regimen of Area III contests including the FFA Floriculture competition. The Junior Division team was made up of Robert Noland and Ethan Hall and the Senior Division team included Harris Carlisle, Sarabeth Tindall, Kaylynn Thompson, and Hannah White placed 14th of 28 teams. In the newly created Junior Agriculture Mechanics contest the team of Spen Oliver, Lexi Bryan, Cole Lane, and Wesley Williams placed 4th : in the competition with Spen placing 0 ‘a = A WILD IDEA- Taylor Lehman and Spencer Borden are preparing to be on display for the Harris County FFA float for the Harris County Homecoming parade. The float finished in 1st place in the parade float competition. PRECISION COUNTS- The Harris County FFA Farm Business Management team gath ers around the table with their calculators in hand to complete the team portion of the con test. the Jungle.” The float was selected as the First Place winning float in the parade. The next week, 14 Harris County FFA members traveled to Louisville, KY for the 88th National FFA Convention. Members watched as their own Josh Lott accepted his American FFA Degree. This is the highest honor among FFA members and only 0.5% of, students reaching this distinction. November continued with a num ber of contests held at Fort Valley State University. A junior team made up of 9th graders, and a senior team, competed in the Environmental Natural Resources event. In the Junior Division, Julie Culverson, Lexi Bryan, Wesley Williams, and Robert Noland placed 4th, with Julia being the 7th highest scoring individual in the area. The Senior Team of Cody Lott, Nicole Bowden, Seth Chapman, and Thomas Solt, and placed 8th in the competition. For the Farm Business Management team, Hannah Morgan, as the #2 Highest Individual and Lexi placing 6th. In the Agriculture Communications competition, Taylor Lehman, Emily Robinson and Nicole Bowden placed Sth in the Area III contest. This year in Agricultural Sales, Haley Bowen, Jake Harris, Will Bostemann, and Seth Nerowski placed 2nd in the Area III competition. They will compete at FVSU on Feb. 6 in the State Finals. Also on Feb. 6, Hannah White, Paul Strozier, and Blair Morgan will compete in the state finals of the Agriculture Marketing competition and the chapter will be represented by a Junior and a Senior Division team in the FFA Equine Evaluation competition. The chapter will be preparing for the National FFA Week celebration February 21 - 27; State FFA Convention in April and attending area and chapter banquets in May and the FFA Summer Leadership.
