TO INDUCE IMMIGRATION.
The meeting of southern gov
mors at Richmond having come
nd gone, we are just where we
ere before, with no prospect of
immediate state action in the
liattcr of inducing immigration.
I’hat any sucli steps will soon be
la ken is highly improbable, judg¬
ing from the absence as to any ac
lion it in regard to a Georgia exhib¬
at the World's Fair.
This, in itself, would have been
kfirstclass advertisement of our
■sources arid would have brought
Lnnnr to spy out our land and
Satisfy themselves as to our fine

sibilities of the fruit, wine and
truck-farm industries, with our
proximity to the northern mark¬
ets and those of Europe, now that
direct trade is being established.
, We mr look , onlv , to . .

vatt; to turn
immigration to our section, and
the “Georgia Land
Company,” the new company just
organizing, promises to “till tho
purposes as the best California
land companies. It will buy up
lands in Georgia, at present im
under cotton, ve
the present encumbered
debt, and encourage them to
and cultivate fruit and
i ‘truck produces on part of their
places, securing their homesteads.
The land that at present supports
but one family and their labor
will, under the new system. »up

The company will sell on easy
terms, plant and build for the
new settlers, if desired, and in
each block of their lands start a
settlement or town wi’h schools,
churches canning factories, stores,
workshops and all the equipments
of civilization. This is only wha;
family brings from $1,000 and up
ward into the state, it will mean
a great addition to the money in
circulation, as each one thousand
families will represent a million
dollars of money.
What Georgia requires is a
complete change in her farming
system, the substitution of fruits,
wines and truck produce for “all
cotton.” This alone would in¬
crease her available capital ten¬
fold; but an equally imperative
demand is more settlers. The pop¬
ulation is not one-fifteenth what
the state can support. If the
population were even doubled we
would hear no more of hard times,
idle manufactories and railway
depression. The Georgia Land
'Development Company will, if
properly supported, do a great

expense to the state and realize a
handsome return for the investors
as a reward for their labers. The
easy system of payments adopted
(on longtime) is sure to attract
others, as after the first payment
(one quarter down) the immi¬
grant can probaly meet all futher
payments from the products of his
orchard and truck farm. All this
and the wonderful resources and
great advantages of Georgia over
other states is fully set out in the
company’s pamphlets, which will
be extensively destributed in the
north and Europe.
Northern men are alreydy com¬
ing in, of their own accord, and
planting orchards. The move¬
ment is begun and the company,
by making a determined offort
now, when all the conditions are
favorable and the World’s Fair
attracting the whole world, is
bound to make a success, doing a
good work for the Empire State
and securing for themselves a
rich reward. They will act on the
principle that you must advertise
thoroughly and drum for business,
if you do not wish to get left.
Nowadays it will never do to sit
down and wait for the chance
that people may find you out.—
