Where the press is free and every man able to read, all is safe. - Thomas lefferson New Year, New Start As I have mentioned be fore, I do not make resolu tions. It is my opinion you could be setting yourself up for failure if you do and the word ’’fail” is not in my vo cabulary. I prefer to set goals, ones that are not extremely lofty and that are reasonable for me to obtain. I am praying that this new year, 2013, will be a better year for everyone I know and even those I do not know. While I am well aware that it could have been worse, it was in many ways, a rough year for my family and me. It was also a rough year for several entities in our communities as they had to tighten their belt buckles and I am afraid there will be even more of that this coming year. But I also believe those things which do not kill you make you stronger and that when times get tough, the tough get going. It is time for us to get going and to stand our ground on those things which really matter. As the year ends and an other begins, I always take a look at my priorities and see that they are in the right place and in the right order. Some times, in spite of your best efforts, they get skewed a little. There are always areas where you can improve from the previous year and areas which you just need to let go of things. I have actually made a lot of progress in the letting go area. So much so, my young est daughter has said she is proud of me about that one thing! The Serenity Prayer has become my best friend. No use worrying about those things you have no control over or can not change. In fact, no use worrying over anything because we are not in control anyway. This year I want to strength en my walk of faith. I work on it daily and God is not fin ished with me yet. Sometimes my compassion for people is overwhelming and I want to do more than I am able but I would not change having compassion because so many others do not have it. This year I actually had to go present shopping on Christmas Eve and I have to say that people were not re ally rude, more people were saying Merry Christmas and it was not as bad as I had en visioned it was going to be from past experiences. I hope this kindness continues this year. As people we have to stick together and we have to help those people less fortunate than we are when we can. The past is the past and it needs to stay there and hope fully we have learned from any mistakes so we can move forward. The new year, for me, is going to be one of positivity. I simply refuse to allow nega tivity in any form. I saw a post of Facebook from someone who said they would be de leting anyone with negativity or drama. I am on board with that one. Life is simply too short for drama from anyone and why be negative when EVERY NEW YEARS BRINGS TH' PROSPECTOR.. &£hi MIDDLES Pay at a Time Victoria ’’Vicky” Simmons vsimmonsS4@gmail.com you can be positive with just as much energy. For this New Year I am wishing entities success and cooperation and the where- withall to meet budget con straints. We had a good ending to our year at The Post and I am looking at ways for improve ments for this new year. We want to tell as many of our citizens’ stories as possible this coming year so if you have a suggestion, let us know. Regardless of how bad the economy gets or how negative the national news becomes, there is always someone doing something good right here in Roberta- Crawford County and we want to tell those stories. We can not tell them if we do not know about them and we de pend on our readers to help in that area. Though we try to stay on top of things, we do not always know everything contrary to popular belief. We wish that we did, but that is not reality. Let’s all leave our troubles behind and strive to be posi tive in 2013 and to have com passion for others. They will be blessed but those blessings will return to you as well. Happy New Year to you all and blessings in 2013! THINNER TOPS AN'LOOSER CHOMPERS TIGHTER JOINTS SO/ WHY WOULD I CELEBRATE? Still Saying ’I Do’ I’m using my column this week to practice for a very important day. As I’m writing this I’m steadily going over all the preparation plans in my head for my husband and my recommitment ceremony on December 30th. I have ex plained before why that date, but for those who may not have read that column, this year is seven years of being married and my lucky num ber is seven. It is also 2012 (right now anyway) and 12 is my hubby’s lucky number. We married in Novem ber but we had to wait for the ceremony for my bestest friend Alicia to come home from Colorado. So what bet ter way to end the year than to A Letter From A Nursing Home To my dear Family: They tell me we are celebrat ing a new year—while I am trying to remember exactly where I am, or how long I have been here. I know that there is a reason for my being placed with a lot of old peo ple—some of them can’t walk or talk. And there are others who are not so old-but some thing is wrong with them, and they make a lot of noise. The people who work here are treating me good-and they try to get me to eat (not much problem with getting me to sleep—there is a pill for everything.) They also try to make me laugh (and the way the residents wobble pretty much takes care of that.) What doesn’t make me too happy, is they get me up early every moming--(for pills, potty, and pablum—that’s a joke)—and tell me to view the flowers lost as well) and if I don’t door! (and there is a large black cat that seems to know that I am here) and I love it when the sun shines—but sometimes it rains, and the wind blows hard, and it is then that I cov er up real good and wish for someone to hold me tight. Oh well, I have had my day- -and memories is about all that stays with me. Some times they make me feel real good, and other times they make me blue. I pray a lot... and it always helps—but it never takes the place of my sons and daughters, and the little ones that have been bom through the years! Oh, how I miss all of them if they don’t come by! That is one reason for my letter (I do hope it gets to each one—sometimes the mail gets lost and sometimes people get ~ Quotable Quote ~ Resolution One: I will live for God. Resolution Two: If no one else does, I still will. — Jonathan Edwards see you for lots of days (or weeks), I then sorta think that my notes didn’t get to you. What I wanted to say, was that the last time (if I remem ber right) that one of you came, there was a small pie, and a gown (the nurse says the gown fit good-but she was funning, it’s really too little maybe I have just consumed too much ice cream and potatoes)—but never mind—(and I really can’t recall just which one of you came last)-—but I want to tell you, I always appreci ate what you bring; gifts are a very thoughtful thing (es pecially when you can use it after a sandwich) (love those slippers)—am losing my train of thought—wanted to say that while things you (and others) bring are nice, noth ing is important compared to seeing your face, and hearing you rvoice, and feeling your touch! I have talked with the others here, and they agree that it changes the entire day when you walk through the (Don’t worry about Frank- I’m told that he has someone to look after him. Frank is the friend that lived next door to me; and was concerned about me after we lost Papa Joe-a good neighbor, in case you don’t remember). And lest I forget to tell you, I spend a lot of time looking for someone to drop in from the family; have some friends that see me from time to time- —but I mostly am cheered by those who are blood kin- -even when they can’t stay long! I guess that’s because I love them so much! (Share my words with the others if they don’t get my letters— cause sometimes letters get lost-and maybe that’s why they don’t come! I am tired- so will call a nurse to mail this forme. Bye! Lilly (The one who used to rock you to sleep! I hope you remember where I am! It’s close to that church with a steeple.) say “I still do,” to each other. Even though it is going to be a quick casual (and probably freezing cold) ceremony we wanted to take the time to end this wonderful year right. We took our vows in No vember of 2005 right here in Roberta at the Crawford County Courthouse (the brand new, at the time, one). We were supposed to go to Macon County (where Hub by is from) to have his family friend, Judge McCarty, marry us, but things didn’t work out as planned and we ended up here. I think God knew we would end up making our way back here so why not get our start here. Judge Pam Busbee did the honors and although it would almost be seven years before I’d see her again, I think she did a fine job for our elope ment. After we were mar ried we ran away to Daytona for a whirlwind vacation on the beach with nobody else around. Then we came home and made our Thanksgiving rounds telling all the fam ily the good news. We got a lot of gaping mouths and big hugs for that holiday. Now for the end of this holiday season we are going to do it right. We are going to have family and friends gath er in our yard and renew our vows under an arbor made of John Deere tractors (yes, we are country) and guests will take their seats on hay bales. Then we will invite every one in for dancing and a little food and my fire bug hubby will build a fire outside for those who want to brave the cold. Now I did say I was going to use my column to practice but I haven’t written anything close to a vow yet. I want to add a little flare to our regular vows so here goes: Jason, my husband, you From Moo To You Abigail ”Abby” Adams abbyadams@pstel.net iave been such a strong sup- porter of all I do for seven years now. If anyone asked me would I do it again, of course I would. We may not have a whole lot but together we have more than we need. I want to say thank you for our beautiful children, for all the love and support you have given me and for being there when I just needed someone to yell at. Thank you for put ting up with my insanity and womanly craziness. I know I give you more of a hard time than most men can handle but every night for the last seven years you have been right there next to me. I know times have been hard and sometimes they have been tougher than they should have been but I think together we are going to go far. I will always love you and I will always be there for you. You are my monkey, my country boy, and my John Deere loving, hard working, partner for life. I still do, my love. Write A Letter To The Editor published every week by Crawford Publishing, LLC.
