Intermittent Fasting (IF) For those that may not be familiar to the term, inter mittent fasting is just taking “intermittent” times of fast ing (no food) and working them into your lifestyle. This can be either once a week or several times a week. This is an inexpensive way to drop weight (bum fat) over time without worrying about los ing muscle tissue or ’’which fat burner or diet will work the best for you”. Intermittent fasting is done by simply extending the time before your next meal, usu ally “anywhere from 12-30 hours”. I like to do this once a week and the way I do it is, (after my last meal of the day, simply going into the follow ing day “by stretching out the time when my first meal will be). I simply do not break- the-fast (this is the mean ing of breakfast) until either afternoon or early evening. This lowers the level of in sulin produced (for carbs and sugars) which in turn will signal release from another energy source- “stored fat”. A food/ calorie deficit will sig nal for the release of stored calories (fat). There are 3500 calories in a pound of fat, so by dropping about 18-24 hours of normal food intake, this can really start adding up on your weekly decrease in calories. I like to do this once a week, but depending on the amount of fat you’re want ing to lose, “you could do it up to 3 times a week without worrying about muscle loss. If you overdo calorie restric tion for too many days, your body will accommodate the lower food intake by low- Your Health by Wade Yoder Master Trainer & Fitness Nutrition Specialist ering your metabolism, “it does this by breaking down muscle for energy”. Remem ber to drink plenty of water “as this is your only source of hydration during periods of fasting”. A New You r For The New Yearl Come See Us!
