Though the school system is not yet ready to take on the high school gym project, the presi dent of Parrish who was pres ent at the meeting offered a free evaluation of the gym to find out for the board if the building has a good layout and a sound structure. Dickey thanked them for their time and said they would keep them in mind for when the school system was able to take on the project. As it came time for board member reports, most of the members wanted to welcome new member Cody to his first meeting. Cody is no stranger to board meetings, having served on the Board of Recreations since its creation in 2012. He is also no stranger to Crawford County being that he is a life long resident and very proud of his community. He stated that he agreed with a statement made by Dickey at a previous meeting to the effect that the board should set high expectations and strive to meet them and that the school sys tem should choose to be great. He will be receiving training at the local level soon with Dick ey, superintendent John Doug las and Sharon Craft in the fi nancial department to find out more about the school system and how it works. As the meeting came to a close and personnel was dis cussed, a new math teacher being added to the high school staff brought forward a con cerned parent. Patricia Lucas stated that her daughter has al ways had trouble with her math studies until this year she was helped by a student teacher the children called Mr. P. Lucas stated that in Novem ber she heard that Mr. P. would be leaving Crawford County. This prompted her to visit the school and speak with high school principal Mike Camp bell. Lucas says she was as sured by Campbell that Mr. P. would be hired in December. Lucas was dismayed and upset when she found out after her daughter returned t school from the holiday break that Mr. P. had taken a job in Fort Valley. Lucas voiced her concerns about her daughter’s grades to the board stating that because of the student teacher her grade had come up from failing to a B average. The board decided after Lucas’s statements to go into executive session to dis cuss personnel.
