Kelly stated that an adjoining property owner had shown interest in the property, but at the time the amount he offered did not match the esti mated market value. Since the property has not received any more interest the board voted to sell the property for the amount offered at $2500. New commissioner John Thomas turned the attention of the board to the dirt policy in the county. He stated that he had heard that the county was out of desirable dirt (shellrock) and that all they had for sale now was red clay. He asked how much it cost to deliver the dirt, to which Kelly replied was close to $100. The dirt is being sold at $50 a load. Thomas stated he felt like the money that was being spent on delivering the dirt could be used better in the county and Chairman Dean Fripp won dered how many roads could have been fixed with the “good dirt” the county had be fore they sold it all. Chapman agreed and stated he would “2nd the motion to get out of the dirt business,” if Thomas made the motion. Thomas refrained stating he would like to know how much is lost on selling and delivering dirt per year. Kelly stated now that the county only has the red clay, dirt sales have gone down dramatically. He told Thomas that he would figure up the yearly cost and present it to him at the next meeting.
