J loaf School Board Approves E-SPLOST For March 13th By Abigail Adams The Georgia Post It is time for the Crawford County Board of Education to come up with another five-year facility plan and at their regular scheduled meeting on Monday, February 11th Chair man Raymond Dickey questioned when the plan would be drawn up. The question was brought on by the request from Superintendent John Douglas for the approval of the board to hold a special election in March for E-Splost. After the approval of the agenda and the last meeting’s minutes the financial report was presented by Sharon Craft who stated that $97,000 in taxes has been collected so far. This is more than they had received by this time last year. The school system is also expecting to see another check from the State that will cover the cost of the elementary school renovation project minus about $50,000. The E-Splost election will cost the school board $13,085 and must be held either on March 13th or the second week in November. Douglas asked the board to approve the elec tion for March the 13th and stated that a check from Georgia Power in the amount of $ 11,000 will help cover the cost. When asked why Georgia Power sent the check to the board, Douglas stated that because of the renova tions to the elementary school a lot of energy saving changes had been made. The cost of the election was not the concern that Dickey had and he questioned the five-year facility plan that the Splost funds would be used to fund. Douglas stated that the five-year plan is being worked on and that he would have it to show the board very soon. The board unanimously approved March 13 th as date for referendem. With the GSBA summer confer ence coming soon the board voted on who would attend as delegate and alternative. Three board members stated that they would be attend ing, Dickey, Board member Tim Johnson and newest board member Brad Cody. The board voted to send See E-SPLOST, Page 10 RCCCOC Annual Meeting, Feb. 18th The new, Unsung Hero award, was presented by Chamber President Charles Cook, left, to Lewis Andrews.
