Fundraiser Begins April 1st
Though it doesn’t seem like it
with the cooler weather lately,
spring has sprung in Byron
and that means the Battle of
Byron is just around the cor
ner ~ May 4th to be exact.
The Lil’ Mr. and Lil’ Miss
Battle of Byron fundraiser will
be held this year, open to any
child from age 3-8. Parents,
grandparents or a business can
sponsor a child for $25 and
then, with parental consent,
each child collects as many
pennies as possible from
April 1-May 1. Each penny is

votes is crowed Lil’ Mr. and

The Byron BB&T will
collect deposits from par
ents throughout the time. All
deposits must be made by the
end of the business day on
Wednesday, May 1st. All pro
ceeds raised benefit the Battle
of Byron and its distribution of
funds to local non-profit orga
nizations. All participants are
asked to be on stage at 10:30
a.m. to be introduced and for
the crowning of the winners.
Winners represent Byron for
the rest of the year by par
ticipating in other community
events as well as the Byron
Christmas Parade.
This is not a beauty contest,
but is to encourage children
and their families to be more
involved in the Byron com
munity. You are asked to
please pre-register by April 3
to ensure your child gets the
proper t-shirt size. Registration
forms can be picked up from
Karla Chidester by calling

Communications
To Be Improved
A 400-foot communications
tower behind Peach County’s
public safety complex on
Hwy. 341, will, once every
thing is in place, improve
communication throughout
the county.
The City of Fort Valley
signed an agreement this
month and the PC Board of
Education already has its
equipment in place under
an agreement. Entities do
not have to pay for renting
space because the tower was
built with SPLOST funds
and commissioners decided
against charging. The county
will move its 800 megahertz
system from the Flint Energies
tower to the new tower. This
will save the county about
$716 in monthly rent to Flint.
The new tower is expected to
remove any gaps in commu
nication coverage within the
county between all agencies.
