The Northwest District Project Achievement took place March 8-10 at Rock Eagle. A Toy Story theme set the tone for the weekend conference. Crawford County 4-H’ers par ticipated amongst 600 other 4-H’ers from our district. This opportunity provides the 4-H’ers of Crawford County an out-of-county educational experience and gives recogni tion for outstanding accom plishments in 4-H work. Project Achievement serves to showcase 4-H’ers success. Twelve Junior and Senior 4-H members from Crawford County attended and compet ed. All performed well and several placed at the top of their project area. Junior 4-H’ers (7 fll -8 th grad ers) chose from 53 different project areas and prepared a 3 page portfolio with an illus trated talk. Contestants were judged within their topic. Their portfolio showcases their work in the main project area, sharing/helping experi ences, leadership activities, 4-H activities, and other com munity service actions. At the senior level (9 th -12 th graders) 4-H’ers submit a 5 page port folio including a cover letter to the judge. Seniors have 49 topics from which to pick. First place winners advance to State Congress. Demonstrations are pre pared and practiced prior to competition. During the week end, 4-H’ers present their illustrated talk which includes reference to posters and props. Many skills are gained from this competition but are not limited to leadership, public speaking, and communica tion. Senior 4-H’ers John Spinks competed in Performing Arts Instrumental and Alicia Fortney in Public Speaking. James Fortney competed in Wildlife while Aleese Grant participated in Conservation of Natural Resources. Anna Gibb completed her presenta tion in Safety winning the 3 rd place medal. Junior 4-H’ers included Mariah Cummings, 2 nd place in Arts project; Chloe Spillers, 2 nd in the Better Breakfast cat egory; Jarred Brooks, 1 st in Physical, Biological and Earth Sciences; Sierra Dixon, 2 nd in Muffins; Alexis Moroney, 1 st in Companion Animal Science; Dakota Dixon and Rosemary Chapman competed on Sports. The Crawford County 4-H staff would like to congratu late all 4-H members and their families who worked so dili gently to be a part of this year’s District Project Achievement. Bobbie Evans To Speak At Byron Conference Bobbie Evans of Culloden is one of two very powerful motivational speakers highlighting A Light in the Darkness, women’s ministry conference on April 6th at the Byron Municipal Complex. Evans believes in the power of laughter. The other woman, Nancy Gibbs, has written 10 books and speaks frequently at various venues. ”We need to embrace life every moment and spread joy even in the midst of sorrow,” Evans says. Evans is the director of JoyFULL Laughter, and is a certified Laughter Yoga instructor. Evans experienced the healing ability of laughter first hand when she suffered a mild stroke which led to depression and anxiety. ’’Laughter is one way of sustaining us. God created laughter in us, it’s time to bring back that child like innocence!” Bobbie and her husband, Chuck, live in Culloden, Georgia and their place is called The Refuge. ’ They are also avid Traditional Bow Hunters. She is the former CEO of Saints Alive Cares, Inc. a care management consulting firm assisting families through the end of life stage and has given several workshops and spoke at different venues as well. She currently works at Upson Regional as a Surgical Unit Secretary/NT. She and Chuck are members of MT. View Baptist Church in Thomaston. She is a mother and grandmother. Gibbs has been writing for over 15 years and has published 10 books herself and also written for other publications such as Guideposts and Chicken Soup for the Soul and many others. Nancy and her husband, Roy, live in Cordele and he is pastor at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church there. Nancy is also a mother and grandmother and keeps books part-time for Adams Pharmacy in Cordele. Also on the program will be Mandy Robinson who will be sharing her testimony from finding out through all her trials, she could rely on God. Attendees will also be treated to the comical renderings of The Heavenly Queens of Comedy, Chef Audrey and Jill Elliot. These women are Christian comediennes and also have other talents as well. Chef Audrey as the name implies, is a chef and personal trainer. Elliott is an attorney. You will be uplifted by the musical talents of Paul Carreker, a Byron police officer; Tammie Klima who ministers through music and Papa’s Pride, singing sisters, Chris Sercer and Donna Stripling. Sercer has opened for Alabama and Papa’s Pride has opened or Sylvia and Bobbie Evans T.G. Sheppard and they have showcased at the Blue Bird Cafe in Nashville, Tennessee.
