An article titled, 2013 Economic Yearbook, first caught my attention. I quickly turned to page forty and read the information on Central Georgia. Much to my disappointment there was not one word about our county. We were listed in the three Bureau of Labor Statistics listings. Here is how we rank from the years 2000 to 2010 for, Population +0.1%, 12,464 to 12,553; Employ ment-2.1%, 1,509 to 1,297, and Per Capita Personal Income +4.6%, $21,852 up to $32,359. As a County Commissioner for the past two plus years, I have had conversations with many Crawford County citizens about their needs and Dennis Rakeen Simmons, 21, Reynolds, GA, Armed robbery. Terry Bryan Spillers, 25, Fort Valley, Probation violation. Shatoria Nichole Streeter, 30, Fort Valley, GA, Aggravated assault. Marcus Stringfield, 30, Fort Valley, GA, Terroristic threats and acts. Robert Lee Thompson, 47, Warner Robins, GA, Contempt of Superior Court. Chester Lee Vance, 31, Oglethorpe, GA, Theft by re ceiving stolen property. Christopher Lon Vance, 34, Oglethorpe, GA, Failure to maintain insurance, Tag light required, Driving while license suspended, Expired or no regis tration or title, Missing/defaced/ obscurred license plate, Theft by receiving stolen property. Tamra Lousie Vaughn, 36, Macon, GA, Driving while li cense suspended or revoked. All parties are innocent un til proven guilty in a court of law. hopes for the future. The fact remains that we individu ally have our thoughts, hopes and dreams about our future. We all want our homes to be places of peace and refuge, our children to grow up and become good citizens, our jobs to be stable and strong, and to live long enough to get to retirement and have good health and enough money to enjoy it. What about the future of Crawford County and the sum of us all. I look at the statis tics above and can quickly see where I am. I moved here over 40 years ago so I am not one of the +0.1 increase in population. I have a full time job as well as a part time job so I am not one of those who are suffering through unem ployment. I have truly been blessed by my employer and you as a county and therefore I am one of those that have experienced an increase in personal income. Where do you find yourself? What about those of us on the other side. Why did the +0.1% chose to move to Crawford County? Would they do it all over again, if they had the choice? Who is the person that is unemployed or under employed? Where will he or she find a job? How about the young people gradu ating from high school or col lege this spring? Where will they go to work? How is my neighbor who has experienced a loss of income fairing? Will we continue to see homes go into foreclosure where people have no job or have taken lower paying jobs? Is there a hope for these neigh bors? This is not meant to be a sermon about my brother’s keeper, but then again it may be. ALL of US are citizens of Crawford County. Much of what affects one affects all. Paul Chapman Crawford County Commis sioner Peach Co.
