Truly nothing could be as important as the coming of the Messiah! Without His coming all of us, even today, would live in a world of gloom. Stop and think for a few minutes, how different our lives would be! Let’s look at some sad facts. If Jesus had not been bom the thirty nine Old Testament books would not be worthy of respect for “To Him all the prophets wit ness that, through His name, whoever believes in Him will receive remission of sins.” (Acts 10:43). Starting as early as Genesis 3 we have prophecy recorded of some one coming to free mankind. According to 2 Peter 1:19, “the prophetic message” is “confirmed.” If Jesus had not been bom, the world would be with out the perfect character of Christ! When studying the perfect character of Christ, several grand facts must be considered. It is a fact that four New Testament books, Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, exist today to reveal (1) the birth of Christ; (2) what He said and did during his life on earth; (3) what others of that period said about Him and (4) His death, burial and resurrection. In all the evidence cited, not the least flaw can be found against Him. Not even the testimony by His enemies in Luke 7:34 when they were hoping to show a fault by accusing Him thusly, “The Son of Man has come eating and drinking, and you say, ‘Look, a glutton and a winebibber, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!”’ could show a flaw in His character. If Jesus had not been bom the world would not have seen the greatest example of salvation, the rite of baptism (immersion) in water. John, a special messenger, was “sent from God” to baptize all the Jews who would repent. (John 1:6; Mark 1:4 and Matt. 3:8). Baptism, then and now, only provides salva tion from sin to one who has expressed hue repentance. Jesus was sinless so He did not need John’s baptism (im mersion) “that sins might be forgiven.” John was reluc tant to baptize Jesus, saying he had needed to be baptized by Jesus, but Jesus told him “Permit it to be so now, for thus it is fitting for us to ful fill all righteousness.” (Matt. 3:15) Jesus knew that fulfill ing “righteousness” is being obedient to God’s commands. (Psalms 119:172). If Jesus had not been bom, how could mankind be saved to eternal life in heaven with God? The purpose for which He was bom was to call sinners to repentance. (Matt. 9:13) To be pleasing to God one must exercise faith in Him through diligent obedi ence. (Heb. 11:6) In the light of the New Tes tament teaching as we study it today, how would man be saved from his sins without Jesus being bom? (1) Without Jesus being bom, what example would we have of anyone living a sinless life in this world? “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” (Rom. 3:23) Without Jesus we would not have an advo cate with the Father. (1 John 2:1). (2) Without Jesus being bom how would we have the blood of the perfect sacrifice provided for our salvation? “.. .without shedding of blood there is no remission.” (Heb. 9:22b) Read all of Hebrews chapter 9. (3) Without Jesus being bom how could He have been raised from the dead? Romans 4:25 tells us that Jesus died because of our offenses (sins) and was raised from the dead for our justifi cation. He lived on this earth as a man and experienced all the temptations like the rest of mankind BUT WITHOUT SINNING! He LIVES today, sitting on the right hand of God the Father in heaven, acting in our behalf to God - if we are obeying the will of the Father through Him. (Matt. 7:21 and John 6:40) I am so thankful that JE SUS WAS BORN!!! That He was willing to fulfill the “will of the Father” that I though Him might have salvation and the opportunity of life eternal in heaven with Him! National Facts, Tax And The Ax There is no debate-all three of the aforementioned items are ’’front and center” in our Nation’s Economic plunder! The Facts are twisted, ignored, and debated! The Tax, past present, and future; is the Democrats manner of meeting or approaching ’’dollar dilem mas”! The Ax is the toy that many use to justify bringing two ends together at some point! These three subjects on the perpetual Congressional Agenda (mixed with endless chatter); solves very little—for statistics are summarily trashed with wishful thinking, or God less aspiration! Office holders (and many with an egocentric motivation); are continually reminding us that Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid are in trouble- -and will be bankrupt within twenty years or so! This is probably the only sound bite that is essentially on target! Other voices will tell you that a ”New Tax” will solve all our problems! Thirdly, more conservative minds will use the ’’sharpened Ax” to whittle away at waste, and non es sentials! An absolutely unde- batable fact, is that about forty percent of America’s ’’daily grab of monetary moments”, is just that non essential. But not to worry—we will shuffle- struggle-and strive (over night caps), until we justify an impractical stance! One of the dimensions of ’’constant squabble” has to do with Entitlements! First of all, the definitive term is a mis nomer; for a good portion of the dollars have no relation to ’’legitimate Entitlement”! They are placed in that column at the convenience of self serving politicians; and they will argue their position until the last coin is carried away! I was recently in the local Social Security Daniel W. Gatlyn, USN Ret., Minister/ Journalist — Office, to cancel my deceased wife’s small monthly income! As I viewed the customers, I quickly realized that not one person in the room had passed their fortieth birthday-which caused me to surmise that, the laws could be changed to add years to the older group for qualification—and would not save a dime! Not when SSI is granted to all the younger generation! While some are obviously justified to become recipients of aid, there will nev er be sufficient funds to satisfy a ’’dream bent” generation! There is no debate in the ’’reckless equation” of National debt-nor the fact that we are unable to settle such liability! Add that to the fact that we are at this juncture, primarily because there exists multitudes with their hands continually in (what used to be called the cookie jar) what is termed ”bail outs”, and the like! Pray if you will-wish, dream, and sound off—but there is no answer for our downward thrust short of a ’’full scale repentance” of dastardly deeds and philosophy!
