Kate Gravely, a student in Crawford County, recently donated her hair to Locks of Love. She let Sharon Holliday of Salon 49 in Fort Valley cut off her locks to be donated. Her mother is Laci Gravely. PAGE 3 - THURSDAY, APRIL 11,2013 CCEN Trike-A-Thon Asking For Donations To Help St Jude Help Children with Cancer Cancer in children is a devastating situation for any family, in any community. Roberta has experienced it very close to home with one of their little local residents, 5-year old Kade Howard, be ing diagnosed with medul- lablastoma back in the sum mer of 2012. Howard spent most of last year and the beginning of this year bat tling the cancer and thanks to efforts of St. Jude’s in Ten nessee and the prayers of his whole community, he is now in remission and is finish - ing up his last chemotherapy treatments. Although Kade is in recov ery, there are other children out there in his shoes that St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is working to treat. St. Jude is internationally recognized for its pioneering work in finding cures and sav ing children with cancer and other catastrophic diseases. They are the only pediatric cancer research center where families never pay for treat ments that are not covered by insurance, and families with out insurance are never asked to pay. In order to continue this policy they rely on donations from programs such as the annual Trike-A-Thon that is going to be held at the Craw ford County Eagle’s Nest next week April 15-19. St. Jude Trike-A-Thon is a fun, week-long safety curriculum and fundraising program that supports St. Jude. The program is a great way for daycare centers, preschools and other orga nizations to teach children valuable riding-toy safety lessons, which they learn from Bikewell Bear® and Pedals the Bunny® through educational materials provid ed by St. Jude. At the end of the week, children bring their riding toys to school to cel ebrate the lessons they have learned and their fundraising success for St. Jude. The Eagle’s Nest hopes to raise money to send to St. Jude to help children like Kade receive the treatment they need.
