The best and only foundation of the home that will be successful here on earth was established by God. We realize that these are critical times for what constitutes a home. The scriptural home is being threatened by a great number of forces, which are seek ing to destroy the principles which God has established for the home. In Genesis the first book of the Bible, which records the beginning of our world and its inhabitants, we find the beginning of the institution of marriage which is the beginning of the home. Please read Gen. 2:18-25 for a look at the very beginning of what God has set forth concerning the home. God established one of the basic foundation principles which serves as a bulwark for every successful home, “Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.” Got News? Email us at byronbuzz@ pstel.net (Gen 2:24). In Mark 10: 6-9 Jesus restates this founda tion principle, “But from the beginning of the creation, God made them male and female. For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh, so then they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore, what God has joined together, let not man separate.” No home is as God designed it unless it is one man and one woman joined together to become one flesh. Genesis 1:27-28 states, “So God created man in His own image; in the im age of God He created him; male and female He created them. Then God blessed them, and God said to them, Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every liv ing thing that moves on the earth.” God’s plan was, and still is, for the procreation of mankind through the joining together of one man and one woman as a family formed through marriage. Teaching is a foundation principle that perpetuates the home as designed by God. In Deuteronomy 6:1-2 the word tells us, “Now this is the commandment, and these are the statutes and judg ment which the Lord your God has commanded to teach you, that you may observe them in the land which you are crossing over to possess, that you may fear the Lord your God, to keep all His statutes and His command ments which I command you, you and your son and your grandson, all the days of your life, and that your days may be prolonged.” Deuteronomy 6:6-7 God’s words and com mands are to be taught by the parents to the children in this manner, “And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up.” In Ephesians 6 children are told to “obey your parents in the Lord” and fathers are told to “bring them up in the training and admonition of the Lord. The home is to be a place of continual instruction by the parents to the children in the ways and statues of God. Each member of the family must function in their God ordained role within the family for the home to be a successful scriptural one. James Earnhardt Evangelist Church of Christ The husband is to hold the home together with a bond of strength and love. In Ephe sians 5:25 Paul instructs, “Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her.” In turn the wife is to submit to her husband just as the church is subject to Christ. The children are to obey the parents in the Lord, see Eph. 6:1; Deut. 5:16; Ex. 20:12 and other scriptures also. When the husband and the wife work together in their particular role as ordained by God, the example of love, respect, strength, protection, instruction, and obedience to God is set before the chil dren, resulting in a strong scriptural home.
