CODE OF ETHICS: Seek Truth & Report It - Minimize Harm - Act Independently - Be Accountable. Where the press is free and every man able to read, all is safe. - Thomas Jefferson Guest Editorial Easy Fix To IRS Corruption By Matt Barber Sir John Dalberg-Acton famously observed, “Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.” No federal agency enjoys more power than the “absolute power” wielded by the Inter nal Revenue Service. It’s little wonder, then, that under this power-drunk Obama regime, the IRS has become “corrupt ed absolutely.” It’s become the hammer to this president’s favorite nail: political dissent. The bureaucratic cat’s out of the bag, and the evidence is undeniable. The Obama IRS has been illegally targeting conservative, Christian and Jewish groups and individu als for political retaliation, intimidation and, ultimately, destruction. These revela tions have spurred calls for criminal prosecution and even impeachment. Still, little has been said about how to prevent such Stalinist abuses of power in the future. We’ve been over-thinking the problem. Sometimes complicated questions come with easy answers. I wish I could take credit for it, but while I was participating in a recent meeting in Washington, D.C., Judson Phillips, founder of Tea Party Nation, hit on the simple solution. “The Consti tution is a great place to go in order to rein in the rampant and repeated abuses at the IRS,” he suggested. Namely, the Fourth Amendment, which guarantees the following: “ The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.” No individual - and espe cially no federal agency - is above the law. Regrettably, and largely through both citizen and government acquiescence, the IRS has been brandishing arbitrary and extra-constitutional authority, unchecked, for well over a century. Imagine if the Department of Homeland Security, the FBI, or the ATF suddenly began “searching” and “seizing” the “persons, houses, papers, and effects,” of millions of U.S. citizens every year without a warrant - without probable cause or even reasonable suspicion that any criminal or civil violation had occurred. People would be outraged, and for good reason. Such actions would rightly and uni versally be decried as uncon stitutional. The lawsuits would fly, heads would roll and the courts would immediately shut down such “unreasonable searches and seizures.” This is exactly the kind of govern ment tyranny our founders endeavored to thwart. So why has the IRS been allowed to do just that - to violate, systemically and systematically, the Fourth Amendment? How is it that this one federal agency, with neither probable cause nor a warrant, is permitted to invade your privacy and confiscate your “houses, papers and ef fects” on a whim? How is it that if you fail to comply with their warrantless searches and seizures, they have the author ity to min you financially and even throw you in prison? No warrant? No problem. When the IRS arbitrarily and capriciously says “jump,” America opens its doors wide and says, “how high?” Is this the IRS or the ISS? Either way, it’s time that “we the people” put an end to this un constitutional abuse of power. At least some good has come from Mr. Obama’s IRS-gate scandal. It’s exposed the un precedented depths to which corruption has burrowed its way from the top down. It’s also underscored the autocrat ic nature of the contemporary IRS beast. It’s unified many Republicans, Democrats and independents around this fundamental reality: America must de-politicize the IRS. Politicians on both sides of the aisle love to pay lip service to a need for “tax reform.” Well, honorable sirs and madams, put up or shut up. It’s time for a new federal “Taxpayer Bill of Rights.” A centerpiece to such leg islation must be the simple See CORRUPTION, Page 5 uotable Quote ~ People don’t notice whether it’s winter or summer when they’re happy.- Anton Chekhov It Can Be Quite Simple Our furbaby, Roxie, re cently celebrated her first birthday. We did not make a really big thing out of it, but did buy her a big bone which made her happy and told her happy birthday all day. Since we try not to give her sweets, we did not go so far as to get her a cake but I will admit, I did think about it. She really has come quite a long way in a year. We no longer worry so much when we have to leave her inside that all our shoes will be eaten or that anything she can reach will end up tom apart on the floor. She rarely touches our shoes anymore and unless really, really bored, only plays with her toys. She still comes up with things to play with from somewhere and we are not sure from where but she keeps herself amused when outside. I am constantly amazed at how smart she is about some things and how human she can act at times. Leash training has not been going very well. In fact, we were beginning to think it was a lost cause or that we were going to have to sign her up for obedience classes. Saturday we were dreading taking her with us into Trac tor Supply. We needed to do a heart worm test and buy the heart worm medicine and talk about the new pill which also kills fleas. Fleas have been bad this year and so have ticks. She loves being outside during the day and so at night we have to check her for ticks. We were amazed how well behaved she was on the leash when at Tractor Supply. It was as if she were a different dog. She was friendly, did not bark or act out like the other dogs. She minded, did not try and bite the vet when he took blood for the test and was the per fect well-behaved dog. We were proud furbaby parents! She would not even take the treat offered to her by the clerk without our approval. I guess, little by little, working with her and not giving up, has paid off. Our lives are kind of like that and making an impact on other people, even our own children, can be quite simple. You work on your self every day, to do the best you can and be the best person that you can and you treat others as you want to be treated and you are respect ful and courteous. Your life and what you say are in ac cord with each other. If you continue to work on yourself and do what’s right, people do notice. The example you set and show to others does mb off on them. It is a continual process, Pay at a Time Victoria ’’Vicky” Simmons vsimmonsS4@gmail.com just like leash training our furbaby, and you do not give up. You can not do anything about how other people act though you can voice your opinion. But you do not let their actions dictate your at titude. The battle really is in our mind and every day you have to talk yourself into not having negative thoughts. It gets a little easier with time. When we are not feeling up to par or we are whining, Roxie seems to know and tries to make us feel better by giving us a furbaby hug. This usually involves her standing on our lap with her paws around our neck. Mind you, she weighs 50 pounds. We should also be mind ful of people we come in contact with each day who may be hurting. If you look close enough and do care, you will see it. Sometimes all you need to do is smile. Other times you may need to be a listening ear or offer a shoulder on which to cry or a hug. There are some people we think are really strong and we overlook the fact that they have times they need to not be so strong. Give them encouragement and a hug when needed. Life is really short and there can be a lot of sadness and pain at times. Lift people up and be an encourager. Wishing you a blessed week. JUNE IS DAIRYMONTH -TAKE A COW TO LUNCH! Is My Fun In The Sun Dangerous? Summer’s official date is right around the comer and when we think of a fun summer “Its usually going to involve fun in the sun, even if we try to hide from it some of the time.” Have you ever wondered why people seem so healthy during the sum mer? It very likely comes from more time spent outside and in the sun, “where our body can naturally produce nature’s only hormonal vita min” -vitamin D! When we change the way nature is set up (for us) to be participants of, we need to keep in mind that nature can be a little environmentally harsh to someone who is not conditioned to it at all “when they suddenly over-expose themselves to these environ mental conditions!” Research studies and claims always make me curious when they come up with negative results on things that have been a part of people’s lives for thousands of years. A curious thing happened after the media and other sources scared many people into protecting themselves against the sun’s deadly rays, (chronic disease sky rocketed)! And most of these chronic diseases were associ ated with low vitamin D lev els! Research published in the Archives of Internal Medi cine show that those with the lowest levels of vitamin D have more than double the risk of dying over an eight year period and they cited the reason for these deficiencies as decreased outdoor activity. When I looked up vitamin D and chronic disease, “there were 16,300,000 results!” One thing the nay-sayers cannot dispute, is that all life here on earth would cease to function without the sun. This is one of vitamin D’s many processes in the body: when we produce adequate levels of vitamin D, “it helps us pull calcium from the foods we eat that contain calcium.” When our vitamin D levels are low our calcium levels in the body drop even if we have a calcium rich diet, this in turn will force the body to pull calcium from the bones for muscle activity, etc. thus making our bones brittle and weak! Another cascading effect is, that after low levels of vitamin D cause low levels of calcium, our body is less al kaline which means our body becomes acidic and a body that is more acidic becomes more disease friendly! I be lieve these acidity levels have contributed in a major way to the epidemic of chronic disease we have now. Here’s a little trick to get around buying vitamin D made in a laboratory: Spend 5-20 minutes in the mid-day sun with as much skin ex posed as possible, (exposure time should vary by fair ness of skin). Experts say 10 minutes will give your body enough radiation to manu- Your Health by Wade Yoder Master Trainer & Fitness Nutrition Specialist acture about 10,000 iu's of vitamin D. The neat thing is that our body can store extra vitamin D in our fat cells for the winter (vitamin D is fat soluble), so I think it’s pretty easy to see why God gave us summers for;) Quick notes: there are 3 types of ultraviolet rays A, B, & C. UVA rays are the most common and reach beyond the top layer of skin, UVB is mostly absorbed by the ozone layer but some make it through “especially at mid day and is responsible for the production of vitamin D, UVC is the dangerous kind and is mostly absorbed by the See DANGEROUS, Page 5 published every week by Crawford Publishing, LLC.
