CCFB Director Serving on AFB Poultry Committee Also Serving as Chairman of Georgia Farm Bureau Poultry Committee MACON, Ga. - Crawford County farmer Larry Cooley grows broiler chickens on his 690-acre farm outside Roberta, where he tends to flocks for one of the country’s major meat companies. Cooley’s influence also extends far be yond his farm with his service on the Ameri can Farm Bureau Federation Committee for Poultry and his work as chairman on the Georgia farm Bureau Poultry Commit tee. Cooley and other farmers on the AFBF committee from across the U.S. make rec ommendations to American Farm Bureau regarding the organization’s poultry policy. The 10-member GFB Poultry Committee is made up of growers from around Georgia. Cooley leads the committee in making recommendations to Georgia Farm Bureau regarding issues that impact poultry produc ers. Cooley and his son Leighton operate 18 poultry houses with a total capacity of 450,000 birds. Cooley Farms received the Environmental Excellence Award from the U.S. Poultry & Egg Association in 2012. Founded in 1937, Georgia Farm Bureau is the state’s largest general farm organiza tion and has 158 county offices. Its volunteer Deacon Harris Back Home Because ”God Told Him To Teach His Word” Deacon Clarence Har ris is a native of Crawford County who moved to Ohio. Twenty-five years ago, he moved back be cause he says the Lord told him to come back home to teach God’s word. He re tired as an electrician from Ohio and has been obeying God ever since as a Deacon at Cool Springs Baptist Church. Deacon Harris recently celebrated his 89th birthday (June 28) and does not take any prescription medicine, Ricky Harris, left, with his father, Deacon Clarence Harris, only vitamins. He proudly both electricians, says he has no aches or pains. His son, Ricky Harris, is also a licensed electrician from Ohio and a veteran who came back here to help take care of his dad. Taylor On Dean’s List Trenton Taylor of Lizella, Georgia (31052), has been named to the Dean’s List at the Savannah College of Art and Design for spring quar ter 2013. Full-time under graduate students who earn a grade point average of 3.5 or above for the quarter receive recognition on the Dean’s List.
