Crawford County Farm Bureau Member Visits Governor’s Mansion MACON, Ga. - Crawford County Farm Bureau (CCFB) member Brenda Cooley was among a group of Georgia Farm Bureau members who recently visited the Georgia Governor’s Mansion to have tea with Georgia First Lady Sandra Deal. Mrs. Deal, front row, center, welcomed the Georgia Farm Bureau Women’s Leadership Committee to the Georgia Governor’s Mansion on June 6. The GFB group visiting Mrs. Deal included: front row, from left, Bonnie Du vall, wife of GFB President Zippy Duvall, committee members Janet Mazurek and Janet Gruel, Mrs. Deal, committee members Brenda Cooley and Linda Crumley and GFB Women’s Com mittee Coordinator Donna Rocker and back row, from left, committee members Angie Durham, Elaine Av ery, Angela Todd, Melanie Raines, Jeannie Tucker and Committee Chairman Na nette Bryan. Mrs. Deal gave the com mittee members a tour of the mansion sharing information about the historical signifi cance of paintings and fiimi- ture displayed throughout the house. The committee presented Mrs. Deal with a signed copy of the GFB cookbook ”A Legacy of Georgia Cook ing.” The GFB Women’s Leadership Committee con sists of a representative from each of the organization’s 10 districts and works to pro mote Georgia agriculture. In addition to serving on the GFB Women’s Leadership Committee, Cooley also co chairs the CCFB Women’s Committee. Founded in 1937, Georgia Farm Bureau is the largest general farm organization in the state. Its volunteer mem bers actively participate in local, district and state ac tivities that promote agricul ture awareness to their non farming neighbors. GFB also has 20 commodity advisory committees that give the or ganization input on issues pertinent to the major com modities grown in Georgia. Crawford County Summer Activities Summer Fun with Crawford County 4-H Crawford County 4-H’ers participated in a wide va riety of summer activities sponsored by our local State Farm Agent, Bobby Hartley. 4-H’ers started off the week creating mosaics out of ce ramic tile. On Tuesday, stu dents created decorative ob jects made from recyclable products. Their creations will be entered in the 2014 Geor gia National Fair. The Fair has all sorts of competitions for 4-H to participate in. For the middle of the week stu dents watched a movie and enjoyed a lunch prepared by Fort Valley State University, Family and Consumer Sci ences Agent, Millicent Price. Price is providing a local program to our county that teaches families with chil dren how to make their dol lar go further while eating healthy. To learn more about participating in this program call the Extension Office at 836-3121 and ask about EF- NEP. On Thursday, members learned about fun ways to eat healthy snacks. We wrapped up the week by making bird feeders for the members of the Senior Center and played bingo with the residents of Roberta Healthcare and Re habilitation. Crawford Coun ty 4-H’ers learned lifelong lessons about community service, healthy lifestyle, and most of all enjoyed a fun filled week. Letter To The Editor Jjdund tyfou Editor ,The Georgia Post: My house burned down in June 15th on Helena-Chauncey Rd in Helena, GA. We lost EVERYTHING; thankfully nobody was home, so we didn’t get hurt. There is no way to name everyone that has been there for us, but you know who you are. If you have thought of us, prayed for us, texted, called, facebooked, sent a card, donations, clothes or been there for us and to all the churches and businesses, then we greatly appreciate you and love you all so much. The Red Cross was a lifesaver for us and we will be forever thankful for them and again THANKS to all the EMS, FIREFIGHTERS, and LAW OFFICERS that were there to help. I’m not asking for anything other than prayers for myself and my family. I pray that I don’t completely go insane and I pray for Jay, Barbara, Chelsey and Ryan because they lived there too and for putting up with me. We are having some issues with our insurance company, which is SOUTHERN TRUST INSUR ANCE CAMPANY in Macon, GA (478) 474-0555. They claim to have cancelled my policy, which is false. I have called and spoke with several people at Southern Trust, including the president, Mr. John Houser, the claims dept. Mr. Brian O’Quinn and the underwriter, Ms. Mary Yates and none of them seem to have an answer and refuse to pay the claim. They drafted my account for the payment after they claimed to have cancelled my policy. My local agent, Saunders, Stuckey and Mullis (478) 374-3445 was not notified of any cancellation, nor was the lien holder or myself. I’m not sure what the next step should be, but I do know that me and my family have lost ev erything we had. We only want the insurance company to do what my policy states they will do.
