Jennings. 45, who lives in Gray, was arrested Monday, July 15th and as press time was being held at the Peach County Law Enforcement Center on a $10,000 bond. He was arrested by the PC Sheriff’s Office on one count of Theft by Deception after writing a check to one of the Monster Truck Show Teams (2Xtreme - Bounty Hunter) on a closed account. The account had been closed in March of this year and the check was dated June 1, 2013. The Extreme Monster Truck Show was held at the old Middle Georgia Raceway May Chris Jennings 31 - June 1, 2013. Jennings had rented the raceway for this event when the incident occurred. BOE Changes Check Out Policy Persons wanting to check students out of school begin ning with the new school year, will be required to provide a valid identifica tion. The identification will be matched with Infinite Campus, a student informa tion system. Peach County School system board of edu cation members approved that change to the student and parent handbook at last week’s meeting. Another change in the handbook calls for a sys tem committee to decide whether or not students who have served sentences with the Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice will go directly to the alternative school or be allowed back into a regular classroom. Previously, those students automatically went to the alternative school. Now they could possibly return to their regular school provided they do not have pending disci pline issues with the school systems. In other business, the board was informed a sink hole at Anderson Field was threatening to swallow the concession stand. It was esti mated to cost around $8,500 and the board voted to allow school superintendent Joe Ann Denning to take the money from the reserved budget if necessary. The problem will be fixed by lining 40 feet of existing pipe with cement as a short term solution. That will buy time for school officials to decide on a long-term solution. Work is expected to be completed within two weeks. Fire Chief J.D. Mosby swore in the newest members of the fire department Monday night who had recently completed a two week orientation and started their full time shifts last week. The firefighters will be backed up with support from the volunteers. New firefighters are Mike Dyer, Jonathon Holland, Brandon Peague, Joshua Kelley, Nicholas Hullette and Billy Parker. PHOTO COURTESY MARK SUDDETH Boys & Girls Club Receives Flint Foundation Grant The Boys and Girls Club of Georgia Heartlands, Inc. located in Fort Valley, Georgia, was awarded $1,800.00 in grant funds from the Flint Energies Foundation. The club provides after school services to 50 students and has approximately 100 youth in the summer program. The grant will be used to purchase a Smart Board. In 2001, Flint Energies adopted this uniquely simple and rewarding way to enable members to raise money for local charities and service organizations ■ Operation Round Up®. Participat ing members allow Flint Energies to “round-up” their bill to the nearest dollar. Nearly 80% of Flint’s members have chosen to participate. Donations to Operation Round Up® are tax deductible and members receive a summary of contributions in future January and February bills. The Flint Energies Foundation Board of Directors dis burses all contributions to approved, worthy projects. Member contributions are not used for administration costs. The Foundation is a state-chartered, non-profit, 501(c) foundation. You Medical Center of Peach County Opens Patients were moved to the new Medical Center of Peach County on Hwy. 247 Connec tor Tuesday. CEO Nancy Peed takes the paper off the Emergency sign. The new ER is up and running had its first patient first thing. The ER at the old Fort Valley location is now closed. The new facility is a first rate, state of the art hospital. Para Vinson, who has ICU Ministry which provides items needed by family members when a loved one is in ICU such as toothpaste, shampoo, etc., has already provided 25 bags to the new Medical Center of Peach County ICU. Some of the bags even have the name of the hospital like in the photo at left. Vinson is also one of the hospital Auxiliary members. The new facility opened on Tuesday of this week.
