The girls all-star team from Crawford County began prac ticing and playing games the first week in June. All the games and preparation were to get the team ready for the Dixie Youth State Tourna ment in Milledgeville. Dur ing the four weeks, Crawford County won a 8U tournament in Ellaville and was 3rd in the June C Class Classic in Macon. Going into the July 12 State Tournament, Craw ford Count had played nine games with a 6-3 record. The 8U division had 5 teams Crawford County, Taylor County, Baldwin, Marion, and Jones County. The first game matched Crawford with Baldwin County the host team. The girls from Craw ford County could not shake the nerves early and came up short losing 12-7. On day two the team came out fo cused and ready to play. In the second game Crawford defeated Taylor County 16- 5. Game three was against Marion County with the win ner playing for a chance to move into the Championship Game. The game was tight until the end with Crawford County losing 7-6 in the bot tom of the 5th inning. Craw ford County began the inning with a ground out. Kennadi Rozier followed with a single to get the tying run on. Jai mee Hudson followed with a shot to left center that went to the fence. Kennadi scored the run to make it 7 all and when the throw to the plate went wide Jaimee scored to win the game. With the win, Crawford County would play Jones County in the Champi onship. Jones County had av eraged 19 runs in the first two games allowing only one run. In the championship game the girls from Crawford made great plays in the field and hit with authority for three in nings. At the end of three in nings, the game was knotted at 5 and the park was buzz ing. No one thought the little girls from Crawford County had a chance. For three in nings Crawford County gave Jones County all they could handle. In the fourth, Jones County scored 5 runs and in the fifth they scored 6 to de feat Crawford County 16-5. The 8U Girls All-Star team from Crawford County had a great year and ended the season the 2013 Dixie Youth State Runner-Up. Local Officers Completes GPSTC Course Forsyth, GA - Patrolman Jo seph Romeo of the Roberta Police Department, Deputy Delane Hill and Deputy R. Miles Mauldin of Crawford County Sheriff s Office com pleted a Basic RADAR Opera tor course taught by the Geor gia Police Academy Division of the Georgai Public Safetly Training Center in Forsyth. Speed consistently ranks as one of the top five contribut ing factors resulting in serious injury and fatality incidents. In 2006, 37% of all motorcycles involved in fatal crashes were speeding, compared with 23% for drivers of passengers cars, 19% for light truck drivers, and 8% for large truck driv ers, according to National Highway Traffic Safety Ad ministration data. This course is designed to improve the ef fectiveness of speed enforce ment through the proper and efficient use of police traffic RADAR speed measurement instruments. Training and pro active enforcement will en able law enforcement to have an impact on reducing these speed related incidents and ul timately saving lives. Funding for this program has been provided by the State of Georgia Governor’s Office of Highway Safety. They were mar ried in 1988 at St. James Baptist Church by Rev. R. A. Crenshaw. Mr. and Mrs. Stubbs have one daughter, Laronnda, who is 19 years old. The happy family re mains in the community of Roberta and is very active in their church. Miami Dancing Star To Share Talents In Our Community Jeffrey Cason had a lead ing role in the stage play ’’The Amen Comer” in Miami, Florida and is bringing the experience he learned to Roberta and will be sharing it with the community young people. The grandson of Master and Mrs. James Stubbs, Jeffrey is visiting to continue his martial arts training goal of obtain ing his Black Belt. He is also an actor, dancer and singer and is continuing to pursue his career in the theatre in Macon. Agree ing to share his dancing talent with the children in our community he will put on an End of Summer Dance Camp teaching the dance styles of Ballet and Hip-Hop at the Korean Martial Arts Academy from Noon - 1:00 p.m. (Ages 10+); 9- 10:00 a.m. (Ages 5-6); 10:30-11:30 a.m. (Ages 7-9).
