come. The Roberta-Craw-
ford County Chamber of
Commerce found that to
be true with the first New
Tastes of Roberta-Craw-
ford County Friday night.
A perfect setting was
provided on the porch of
the of the Roberta Craw
ford County Chamber
of Commerce as local
restaurants set up around
the depot building and
on the grounds just out
side. Only those eateries
relying on food service
displayed for this premier
event. Restaurants’ offer
ing the nearly 100 per
sons attending a variety
of what the crowd called
“tantalizing tastes” were
(in alphabetical order:
Champion’s, Hudson’s
BBQ, Kuntry Kitchen,
Subway, Till’s Treats and
Turner’s Wings. Food
items to taste for every
tastebud were available
from hot wings, to Cu
bans, to coleslaw, cold

again.
None of this would have
been possible without
cooperation from the res
taurants who participated.
Now that you have had a
“taste”, be sure and visit
them to try some of their
other offerings.

cuts, hotdogs, biscuits,
cookies, cheesecake and
more, along with sweet
tea and lemonade.
An award for the fin
est decorated table was a
“People’s Choice Award“
won by Champion’s.
Everyone who came to
eat, could cast a vote on
the best decorated table.
Votes were tabulated by
a person not connected to
the chamber. Results were
very close. Criteria to win
the award was based on
the table decor, not the
food. Champion’s table
was colorfully displayed
with a Palm Tree center-
piece made of pineapple.
Each of the tables had a
story and were unique
in design.. All the eater
ies were given a hardy
applause for their varied
taste sensations.
It was noted at the
end of the evening, only
Roberta and Crawford
County businesses were
used in the purchase of
the gift basket which was
awarded to the People’s
Choice winner. Crafty
Mamas, ECT and Memo
ries provided the kitchen
items of the past as well
as some of the present for
the basket. The hot dogs,
potato chips were pur
chased at Piggly Wiggly
who also donated tea. Big
Chic, had been expected
to participate but was
unable to do so this year
but did donate tea. Linda
and Hugh Gurley donated
Lemonade and BB&T
donated water. The local
Farm Bureau represented
themselves by grilling
the hot dogs and provid
ing the last taste of the
evening. Don Rodeheaver
provided entertainment
as he sang country gospel
songs on the warm July
evening. Larry Carpen
ter worked on the sound
system.
Laughter and fellowship
was enjoyed by those who
attended. All good things
must end and the end of
the evening came as folks
left with a full stomach
and comments about how
wonderful the event had
been for them and wishes

Sales Tax Holiday Justin
Time For Back To School

If you have not already
begun buying those school
supplies, you might want to
wait until next week for the
Sales Tax Holiday, August
9-10 so you can save money.
Items which will be ex
empt from sales tax August
9-10 include:
• Clothing and footwear
that costs $100 or less per
item.
• Personal computer and
personal computer -related
accessories with a sales
price of $1,000 or less.
• General school supplies
to be used in the classroom
or for classroom-related
activities with a sales price
of $20 or less per item.
The sales tax exemption
does not apply to clothing
accessories, jewelry, hand
bags, umbrellas, eyewear,
watches, cellular devices,
furniture, computer-related
accessories designed for
recreational use, items used
in a trade or business or for
resale, or rentals. It also does
not apply to theme parks,
entertainment complexes,
public lodging establish
ments, restaurants or air
ports.

Champion’s of Roberta was chosen as the Business of
the Quarter for the Roberta-Crawford County Chamber
of Commerce. Located on Hwy. 341N, the restaurant is
named after Roberta Champion, for which the city is also
named. Champion’s only opened this year and features
sandwiches, soups, a salad bar, specialty coffee drinks
