Mclnvale-Smith to wed in October Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Mc- Invale and Ms. Terri Mcln- vale of Reynolds, Georgia announce the engagement and upcoming wedding of their daughter, Kalie Beth Mclnvale to Murray King “Kip” Smith, Jr. Kip is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Mur ray Smith, Sr. of Haddock, Georgia. The bride is the grand daughter of Ms. Sandra O’Neal and the late William O’Neal of Roberta, Georgia and the late Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Mclnvale of Reyn olds, Georgia. She is a 2009 graduate of Taylor County High School and is pursu ing her Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Gordon State College in Bamesville, Georgia. The groom is the grand son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Young of Forsyth, Georgia and the late Mr. and Mrs. J. Tarver Smith of Haddock, Georgia. He is a 1995 grad uate of Stratford Academy and received his Bachelors of Science in Forestry from Wamell School of Forestry and Natural Resources at The University of Georgia in Athens, Georgia. He is a Procurement Forester for C M Wood Products, Inc and owner of Kip Smith Forest Services, LLC. The wedding is planned for October 12, 2013 at T&L Ranch in Butler, Geor gia. Montessori children create new milestones between the ages of 2-6 By Teresa Green Do you remember how you felt the first time your child walked? What about the first word your child said, do you remember that feeling? Imagine recreating more feelings like these. That is what happens in a Montes sori classroom! Dr. Montessori found that children have special sensi tive periods for motor skills, sensory learning, language learning, and mathematical learning that all come before the age of 6. When a child is given the opportunity to work with the right materi als at the right time in a safe, specially prepared environ ment, there are almost daily moments of seeing several children experience those types of firsts. The children feel so proud of themselves and they develop confidence and concentration in devel oping new skills. So, what is the difference in a Montessori classroom and a traditional classroom? In a Montessori classroom the teacher has a guiding role instead of a controlling role. The child has the freedom to choose work individu ally rather than a schedule or a curriculum choosing the tasks. In a Montessori class room the child sets the pace for learning not the clock or a predesigned timeline or lesson plan. The child finds that the material helps him/ her self-correct work all un der the careful watch of the teacher. What a Montessori class room is not. It is not a day care. It is not a religion nor does it teach a particular reli gion. It does help the child to leam manners, grace, cour tesy, and empathy for others. It is not a place of chaos. It is a place of order and free dom of choice as long as those choices do not disturb or hurt others. Children are guided by certified teachers, with special training, to rec ognize and aid children in choosing materials for their individual growth needs.
