PAGE 5-THURSDAY, AUGUST 15,2013 Contrast between First Adam and Last Adam In I Corinthians 15: 45-47, the Apostle Paul refers to Je sus as the last Adam: “The first man, Adam, became a liv ing being. The last Adam be came a life-giving spirit.” The first Adam, created from the dust of the earth, became a liv ing being when God breathed into him the spark of life. The last Adam, Jesus, was the co- eternal “Word of God” who “was made flesh and dwelt among us.” Whereas the first Adam was made in “the image and likeness of God,” the last Adam, Jesus, reflects “the im age of the invisible God.” The first Adam was born without sin, but disobeyed God and suffered eviction from a gar den paradise. The last Adam, Jesus, was the sinless Son of God who was “obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.” Both Adam and Jesus were born without a human father. Both were tested by the devil: one in a garden, the other in the wilderness. Both left the legacy of a Tree: one the “Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil” and the other the “Tree of life.” Both died for sin, one for his own sins and the other for the sins of the whole world. Both are givers of life: one gave mortal life to his descendants; the other gives eternal life to all who believe in Him. Both are rulers: one was given dominion over the created world; the other sits at the right hand of God, having dominion over all things. Paul states in Romans 5: 12 that “sin entered the world through one man (Adam)” and that “death came to all people, because all men sinned.” This is one of the most disputed passages in the Bible. In fact, a great debate has raged for centuries that the culpabil ity for Adam’s sin cannot be transferred to the entire human race, as Paul infers. To prove his point (that Adam’s sin in criminates mankind), Paul wrote that all men who lived from Adam to Moses suffered mortal death even though the Mosaic Law had not been es tablished (to condemn them). Paul wrote: “Death reigned from Adam to Moses even though sin could not be count ed against them.” Many theologians oppose Paul’s doctrine. They argue that Adam’s sinful nature is not transferable—that every man is created with free will to choose between right and wrong. Adam had the choice to obey God by not eating from the Tree of the Knowl edge of Good and Evil, but through the exercise of free will, he chose to disobey God’s command. She was employed with Social Security Administration from 1958 to 1959 and worked for H & R Block for twenty plus years. Mrs. Martin retired from Robins Air Force Base after 39 years of ser vice and worked for numerous con tractors on the Base from 1998 to 2013. She was preceded in death by her parents, Nathan Emory Horne and Frances Eloise Thompson Horne. Survivors include her husband, D.L. MATTOX Funeral services for Robert L. “Bob” Mattox, 82, of Roberta were held on Saturday, August 10, 2013 at the Chapel of McLeighton Fu neral Service in Roberta with a pri vate burial. Mr. Mattox was born on March 15, 1931 in Jasper, FL and passed away on August 7, 2013 at his residence. He worked for General Gas Company in Kingsland, GA. He moved to Roberta while working for Mose Gordon Construction in the construction of U.S. Hwy 341. He owned and operated Mattox Pulpwood and Logging Company, but most enjoyed his 5 years as a bus driver for Crawford County vol unteer fire department. He was preceded in death by his parents, June and Edna Bennett Mattox, step mother, Bernice Mat tox, one brother Edward Mattox, an infant daughter Connie Flo Mattox. Survivors include wife of almost 46 years, Claire Peel Mattox; children, Ed Mattox, Tim Mattox (Angie), Todd L. I looked forward to this very much because I grew up in Lancaster County Penn sylvania, which has many Amish/Mennonite communi ties. I was expecting quite a bit as I packed my bags to leave. ’’Are you sure you got everything?” A phrase reiter ated to me by the Gracious Mistress of the Parsonage. To which I responded by saying, ”Yes, for the ump teenth time I got everything.” This in and of itself was to guarantee me I would forget something, usually essential in my travel. We are all in a spiritual battle. All believers find themselves subject to Sa tan’s attacks. Satan fights with lies and sometimes his lies sound like the truth, but only believers have God’s truth which can defeat Satan’s lies. We have every piece of God’s armor to resist Satan’s attacks. We’re in a battle, not only that, we’re in a war constantly fighting against spirits, powers and spiritual wickedness. God tells us what to do. He tells us to take unto you the whole armor of God that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all to stand. Our biggest chal lenge as believers is to stand for Christ. Satan wants us to think that telling others about God is a worthless and hope less task. He says the task is too big and the negative responses are too much to handle. That’s why we can’t witness in our own strength. We must rely on the Holy Ghost to be effective. We must always remember no matter what, we already have the victory, and the bat tle is already won. Although we are assured the victory and the battle is already won, we must stay in the battle until Christ comes. God has already equipped us to do battle with every piece of the armor. We can’t leave behind any piece because that’s where Satan will make his at tack. Born in Peach County to the late Wilson and Sula Hardison Aultman, Mr. Aultman had worked at Dickey Farms and Armstrong Industries and was a member of Musella Baptist Church. He had been the Crawford County surveyor for many years, loved farming and enjoyed riding his tractor. Mr. Aultman is preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Judy Collins Aultman.
