The bride-to-be gradu ated from Crawford County High School and currently attends Central Georgia Tech nical college. She is employed as a medical assistant at Central GA Heart Center. She is the grand-daughter of Mary Smith of Byron and the late Dennis Smith, and Milton and Zellner Moore of Musella. The groom is a graduate of Jones County High School and is currently employed by the Bibb County Fire Depart ment. He is the grandson of Chessie Carpenter of Macon and the late Eugene Carpen ter, and Jo Ellen Conner of Gray and the late John Conner. After a small wedding on October 5,2013 at Musella Baptist Church the couple will reside in Musella. Georgia Farm Bureau members who grow Bermu- dagrass hay are encouraged to enter the GFB 2013 Qual ity Hay Contest. Hay entered in the contest will be tested at the University of Georgia Testing Lab using the Rel ative Forage Quality (RFQ) Test, which predicts fiber di gestibility and likely animal intake of hay. “I’d like to encourage all of our Crawford County Farm Bureau members who have grown Bermudagrass hay this year to consider enter ing the contest,” said Craw ford County Farm Bureau President Edd Harris. “Each person who enters the con test will receive a copy of the analysis information from the University of Georgia testing lab, which is a great tool for measuring the nutri tion quality of your hay and seeing how you may need to make adjustments in your hay production methods to improve the quality of your hay.” Producers may enter more than one sample in the con test. There is a $15 entry fee for each sample entered in the contest to cover the cost of the lab work. Applications are available at the Crawford County Farm Bureau office or may be downloaded at the GFB website http:/www.gfb. org / commodities. Checks to cover the entry fee should be made payable to Georgia Farm Bureau. En try forms and samples should be sent to the GFB Commod ities Department, 1620 Bass Road Macon, Ga., 31210. The deadline to enter is Nov. 1. Winners will be determined by RFQ analysis and visual inspection by a forage spe cialist. Nitrate levels above 4,500 parts per million will be disqualified. Winners will be announced Dec. 9 during the GFB Hay Commodity Conference at the GFB Con vention on Jekyll Island. Prizes will be presented to the top five producers. The first place winner will receive the free use of a Vermeer TM850 Trailed Mower for one year courtesy of the Ver meer Manufacturing Compa ny. The winner will have the option to purchase the mow er at a reduced price at the end of the year. Second place will receive a baler-mounted hay moisture tester. Contest participants will re ceive a detailed copy of their hay analysis information and a free listing in the GFB Hay Directory, if they so choose. Farm Bureau members with hay for sale are invited to list their farm in the 2014 GFB Quality Hay Directory. The directory will be printed in late November. Hay producers should com plete a form and send to the GFB office in Macon along with a check for $10 for each listing. Checks should be made payable to Georgia Farm Bureau. Because this directory is used for the entire year, producers should include normal and projected pro duction of round and square bales they anticipate selling. Directories are distributed to all county Farm Bureau offices, county Extension offices, the Georgia Cattle men’s Association, cattle producers, dairy producers, horse owners, directory par ticipants, and at the Sunbelt Expo and the annual GFB convention. The directory is also listed on the GFB web site. Two on achievement list at GSW Jeremy Colbert of Roberta and Sean Jaskula of Musel la, made the Summer 2013 Academic Achievement List at Georgia Southwestern State University and were among 401 students recognized for their scholastic achievement. A student must previously earn at least 15 credit hours at GSW, be enrolled in three to 14 hours of courses and earn a 3.5 or higher GPA to be eligible for this list. The Crawford County Tax Commissioners Office will be closed September 18 and 19, 2013 for renovations.
