Page 4Thursday, SEPTEMBER 19,2013 THE GEORGIA POST &THE BYRON BUZZ FVMS haunches STARBASE Program The STARBASE program kicked off Tuesday, September 10, 2013 at Fort Valley Middle School. Students had a great time sharing and learning about each other in the initial meeting. They finished the meeting by participating in team chal lenges to build three free standing structures that were then stacked into one structure. This challenge required team work, cooperation, creativity, perseverance, and a little luck to complete the project of having the highest free standing structure. STARBASE is an afterschool educational STEM program held in conjunction with Robins Air Force Base Museum of Aviation at Fort Valley Middle School on Tuesdays from - 5:00 p.m. Students learn about various topics such as how to build and program robotics and about various STEM careers. Advisors are Ms. Paula Phelps and Mrs. Stephanie Johnson. The ladies have special shirts for this game to show support to cancer survivors. These ladies beat Henry County 13-2. The first pitch was thrown out by a cancer sur vivor. The team is pictured with the coaches. First pitch Cancer survivor Debra Gibbs threw out the first pitch for the Pink Out game last week for the Lady Trojans. The Lady Trojans beat Henry County 13-2. A Senior Night recogni tion was also on tap for the evening. SENIOR From Front Page the PCHS basketball teams. Upon graduation Modesty plans to attend Valdosta State University to study dentistry. In de scribing her time at PCHS Modesty exclaimed, ”Wow! Four years ago I never imagined that I would be here at my last home game for Peach County.” She continued, ’’These four years have helped me so much and I really appreciate the help from family, coaches, team mates and their parents. I have had a lot of great experiences here.” Modesty said she wishes all her younger teammates the best in the future softball seasons. Her favorite quote is ”be the change you want to see in the world”. Reunion Above are members of the 4th Missile Bat talion 61st Artillery who attended a reunion in Byron Saturday. Left, Ernest Cool ing, who helped organize the event, shows old photos and shares memories with some of his buddies. The first reunion was held in 2011. Day Care Provider Initial Course The Byron Fire Department will be hosting the Day care Provider Initial Certification Course on September 21, 2013 at the Byron Fire Department Station 1. The course starts at 10 am and is free of charge. Please contact FF Dan Varga at 338-0174 to reserve your seat. This course will complete the requirement for new day care providers to become certified in Fire Safety.
