There are multitudes that live to alter circumstances, the furniture, time table, and every pot plant in sight; at the rising of each sun. Some seem to think, that unless you have changed your habits, your latest fashion of wear, and your psychological slant toward government and religion—you are not honest with the ’’movers and shakers”. To be fair in such mention, there are some advan tages to the ’’shifting of gears”- -if acceleration or upgrade is in the offing. Where would we be if the Interstate Highway was set back a hundred years? Or worse still, if the automobile had never been invented. While all the modem gadgets have literally cost us ”an arm and a leg”-—would anyone dispense with the washer, dryer, microwave, computer, or telephone? Clearly, we have been blessed, pampered (and sometimes cursed) with the end less list of items that have been products of change. (The first bath tubs were labelled a menace-and a danger.) The widening of streets and highways, calls for sidewalks- -more and larger houses—an increase in people, traffic, smog, sewage plants, and garbage dumps. Hope fully, the accompanying mandate includes more schools-technical institutions- -and an increased (in wisdom) governmental infrastructure. But you can be sure that ’’everything that glitters is not gold”. With our eye on progress and an increase in academics- ~it is still very inspirational to scan the pages of Holy Script, and read of One who speaks Daniel W. Gatlyn forcefully, ”1 am the Lord and I change not”. (Hebrews 13:8) The valid explanation of such terminology must be limited to the perspec tive that His Virtue, His Power, His Aims and Love never suffer a diminishing note; but this same Voice of authority also cautions us to ’’Remember ye not the former things— neither the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing, now it shall spring forth (Isaiah 43:18-19) The contemporary wisdom surrounding change, must embrace the malleability of conforming to progressive and acceptable standards that depart from the ritualistic echo that no longer inspires! Those that have become acclimated to a senseless performance cliche, or position; may well have to be reminded that customs, times, and compatibility dictate a ”mid course correction”. Like it or not; dress, space bubbles, and vernacular have altered the day—and what worked decades earlier, no longer responds to demands! The aging pioneer who refused to sell his humble abode amid the early expansion of TVA, was persuaded to make the move, with the promise that they would transfer the burning embers from his fireplace to a new location. We can keep the fire-but with new insight; and an improved method of facilita tion! Our mentality will blend with the times-or suffer antiqua- tion and pay the price.
