It requires dedication, commitment, enthusiasm, and respect for the democratic process. Foremost, it requires leadership with care and genuine concern for the citizens in the community. WE, THE UNDERSIGNED, wholeheartedly endorse Alan Dorsey for Byron City Council Post 5. Collectively, we have known Alan for 56+ years and therefore can say that he is a man who keeps his word. He is a man who has the conviction and desire to serve his community without a personal agenda, and he leads with integrity and a determined work ethic. Alan is more than a good listener. He hears the individual and shared concerns of the public at large. He is a good businessman and an outstanding member of the community. He understands the bigger picture and wants to help Byron continue to overcome obstacles and move forward. When elected, Alan will bring a voice of reason, candor, openness and passion to the office of city council. Alan's roots in Byron give him a perspective on the past with a fresh perspective on the future. As a businessman he understands the need to hold down taxes and to be fiscally responsible. Ed Dunbar Robert Ray Veterans recognized at FVMS assembly Fort Valley Middle School had a school wide assembly in recognition of Veterans Day on Friday, November 8, at 1:40pm in its gymnasium. The keynote speaker was Mr. James Robert Earnhardt, a resident of Fort Valley since 1975. He delivered an inspiring and informative speech to the very attentive students sharing informa tion about the history of Veterans Day and some of his military experiences. Mr. Earnhardt, a native of North Carolina, upon graduating from high school, enlisted in the United States Air Force. After a rewarding and successful twenty-year career, he retired. While on active military duty, he at tended the Florida School of Preaching, preparing for his second career as a preacher of Christ’s gospel at Fort Valley Church of Christ for thirty-seven years. From i98ito 1995, he also served as director of Kay Commu nity Service Center. Today, Mr. Earnhardt spends much of his time as a “gentleman” farmer and continues to serve the church, commu nity, youth and veterans. Among some of his key affiliations, Mr. Earnhardt is a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Disabled American Veterans, and the American Legion. He is local Post 76 American Legion Command er; department chairperson of the American Legion Con stitutional Speech Contest, an oratory contest for high school students; and depart ment hospital representative to the Georgia War Veterans Home in Milledgeville. Mrs. Stephanie Kaigler Johnson presided as mis tress of ceremony. They are Mr. Clem Chester, Ms. Bridgette Grayer, Mr. Randolph Lind sey, Ms. Wendy Huntley, Ms. Paula Phelps, Mr. Isaac Smith, Mr. Michael Lucas, and Mrs. Beverly Smith. A special thanks to the FVMS’ Veterans Day Pro gram committee consisting of Mrs. Stephanie K. John son, Mrs. Denise Small, and Mrs. Beverly Smith and all participants who helped make the program a success. The evening offers you the opportunity to put on your After Five attire and support your favorite local celeb rity and the STARS of Kay Center. Local celebrities dance with Ballroom Dance Instructors/Students for a night of entertainment. The Kay Center serves many in Crawford and Peach counties and is a non-profit organization serving adult individuals with disabilities. Come out and enjoy the evening and support local “CELEBRITIES”. Included will be Ellen Tyner of Kay Center and Karla Chidester from the Battle of Byron, along with Sheriff Lewis Walker from Crawford County, Roberta Mayor Becky Smith and more. It is just $25 a ticket. Donations are accepted if you can’t at tend, which are tax deduct ible. Featured Ballroom Dance Instructors are Ken and Karen Hicks in Khicks Ur- banstyle Ballroom Dance. Martha McAfee is the director of this event. There will be dancing, food, a silent auction and more. McAfee urges you to come dance or just watch or support the others.
