Issue 47 Thursday, December 12, 2013 The Voice of Crawford County Since 1921 also serving Byron and Peach County 2 Sections, 12 Pages One Dollar Siblings arrested for cruelty to children A brother and sister were arrested on November 27, 2013 after a Crawford County Sheriffs Deputy responded to a dog bite case on Clay Road in Musella, Georgia at approximately 3:12 p.m..,. When the deputy arrived, he found an adult male holding a fully undressed three year old male at the end of their driveway. The child had visible injuries and was trans ported to the Medical Center of Central Georgia by Mid-GA Ambulance. The Depart ment of Family And Children Services and the Health De partment were notified of this investigation. The child has been released from the Med ical Center of Mark Fogleman Central Georgia and is in the care of the Department of Family and Children Services at the time of this report. The investigation lead to the arrest of Mark William Fogle man, 18, and Sarah Fogleman, 22, both of Clay Road Musel la, Georgia. Both were charged with cruelty to children by negligence in the second degree. Sarah and Mark are sister and brother. Both Sarah and Mark were released on a $25,000.00 bond. This is still an ongoing investigation by the Crawford County Sheriff s Office and further information will be pro vided later. Sarah Fogleman Commission still discussing a fix for Blue Bird Lane BY VICTORIA SIMMONS The Georgia Post County Commissioners have discussed and discussed a way to fix Blue Bird Lane’s drainage problem and it was again discussed last week. Commissioner John Thomas told the board he had visited the road multiple times and had three issues to be addressed. He suggested tapering the banks of the easement ditch and blading a ditch in front of Mrs. How ard’s home and installing a driveway culvert pipe. He also said the project needed to be competed as quickly as possi ble. Thomas made this in the form of a motion which would eventually pass after more discussion. County manager Pat Kelly had a video of the problem for the commission ers to view. Commissioner Paul Chap man wanted the easement ditch filled rather than piping it. However, he also said that it would be less expensive to buy one driveway culvert than to pipe too feet of ditch. Chapman said that they could easily fix Howard’s problem but it wouldn’t fix the problem of flooding over the road bed. The board discussed filling in the easement. Thomas felt the county would need to do a redesign of the road if this was the way they went and he did not think that necessary. Board chair Dean Fripp said the county needed to bring the road up to minimum standards and adding a ditch line and a culvert would not accomplish that at all. The board went with the proposal by Thomas. In other business the board voted to: •purchase new radio equipment for the Sheriff s Department to the tune of $600 which will come from SPLOST funds. •allow Fire Chief Randy Pate to purchase a fire engine he had found for sale in Bolingbroke for $5,500 if the engine passes inspection. The engine will be housed at the station on Julia Jordan Road. Subway’s float held Jolly ole’ St. Nick and captured third place in Saturday’s parade. Dancing for the Stars - encore Sunday Back by popular demand.. .Dancing For die Stars - Kay Center style! On Sunday, December 15th the Austin Theater located downtown Fort Valley will once again be transformed for an evening of elegant dancing all to benefit the clients of the Kay Center, a non-prof it organization serving individuals with developmental disabilities. Local celebrities have been partnered with contemporary ballroom dancers and will get on stage to “cut a nig” for a great cause. We are just honored that even though some of the celebrities have “two left feet” they have overwhelmingly decided that the individuals of the Kay Center are worth it,” commented the Center’s Director Todd Youngblood. The dedicated staff at the Kay Center work diligently to serve the clients. “Many people think that we serve only Peach County because we are located in Fort Valley but we serve clients from Crawford also,” said Youngblood. A total of 15 local celebrities have committed to dance for the Stars of the Kay Center. They include Peach County EMS Director Alfonzo Ford; CVS Phar macist Dr. Richard Brown; Fort Valley Public Works Director, Larry Brown; Utility Commissioner Jo Ann Dankel; Crawford County Sheriff Lewis Walker and Chief Deputy Harold Dickey; Peach County’s Human Resource Manager Ashlyn Holly; City of Roberta Mayor Becky Smith; Warner Robins Regional Chamber President Randy Randall; As sistant Director of the Kay Center Ellen Tyner; Owner of Divine Designs Salon, Jennifer Brown; Valley Insurance Agent Linda Marcola; Author, Entrepreneur, and Professional Football Mom, Deanna Moore; and community activists and “Jacks and Jills” of many trades, Karla Chidester, Larry Carpenter and Willie Lee James. “It has been fun preparing for the event,” stated event coordinator Martha McAfee. It’s kind of funny watching the intensity on faces as they work to perfect ballroom dance moves. I know they are counting and saying ‘cha-cha-cha’ in their sleep,” laughed McAfee. Prizes will be given to the top fund raiser and an audience favorite will be selected. There will also be time for open dancing so bring you dancing shoes. Tickets to the event are $25 and tax deductible contributions in any amount may also be made. There was a great turnout for the festivities.
