THURSDAY JANUARY 2, 2020 THE GEORGIA POST 3 The Bible Jesus used During Moses’ day, writings were inscribed on ‘stone’ tablets. In subsequent cen turies, papyrus reeds were cut and compressed for writing. Later came ‘leather’ scrolls from animal hides. The skins of calves and lambs were specially treated to produce ‘Vellum.’ The processed skins of sheep and goats were called ‘Parchment.’ The leather sheets, when bound together in book form, were con sidered ‘Codex’ manuscripts. Upon visiting the synagogue in His hometown of Naz areth, Jesus took a leather ‘scroll’ and read from Isaiah (Luke 4:16-21). The Old Testament totaling 39 books was completed before Jesus’ birth, yet not officially canonized until 98 A.D. Jesus was bom around 3 B.C., died on the cross about 30 A.D. Jesus was about 30 years old (Luke 3: 23) when He began His pub lic ministry. At age 12, Jesus discussed scripture with the PONDERINGS Billy Powell The teachers were astonished with the young man’s wisdom and understanding (Luke 2:41-50). learned teachers and scholars at the temple in Jerusalem. The teachers were aston ished with the young man’s wisdom and understanding (Luke 2: 41-50). On the road to Emmaus, the risen Lord expounded to the two travelers all the things the scriptures said about Him (Luke 24:12-35). Later that day, when Jesus met with His disciples, He explained that “All things must be fulfilled which were written in the Law of Moses, the Prophets, and the Psalms concerning Me” (Luke 24:44). In Jesus’ day, the “Law” consisted of Genesis, Exo dus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy. The “Proph ets” consisted of the former prophets: Joshua, Judges, I and II Samuel and I and II Kings. The latter proph ets were Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel and the 12 Minor Prophets. The “Psalms or Writings” comprised Psalms, Proverbs, Job, Songs, Ruth, Lamentations, Eccle siastes, Esther, Dan iel, Ezra, Nehemiah, I and II Chronicles. These three cate gories accounted for the 39 books of Old Testament—which is the Bible Jesus used. When Jesus spoke of assassinations span ning from “Abel (Genesis 4:8) to the prophet Zechari- ah” (II Chronicles 24: 21)), He displayed His knowledge from the first book (Genesis) to the last book in his Bible (Chronicles) of the ancient Bible. The Old Testament was written in Hebrew inter spersed with some Aramaic passages. Hebrew is written backwards, from right to left, and contains no vowels. The New Testament was written in Greek- -using all capital letters, with no space between words and the absence of punctuation. From these languages, our English translation Bibles were produced. The Holy Bible contains 66 books (OT-39 and NT- 27) written by 40 different authors over 1500 years. II Timothy 3:16 declares that all Scripture is the inspired word of God. ‘Scriptural Inspira tion’ is defined by Webster as a “supernatural divine influence on the prophets, apostles and sacred writers.” Closing thought: The New Testament is the “Book of the Resurrection.” If Jesus’ resur rection had not occurred, the New Testament would never have been written. Only once have they been successful in witness ing the departure of their main man, as Richard Nixon chose to resign— after clear violations—and just prior to facing a nonpartisan force of National Officers. The Constitutional charge to warrant Impeachment is list ed as “High crimes & Misde meanors”—violations which are extremely hard to prove. All level minded Americans have no problem in em bracing the process when properly vented; and rules are judiciously followed. It is clearly another matter, when one party pursues investiga tions and action—motivated by mere disagreements—and adjudged accordingly. The preponderance of evidence, practicality, and common sense indicates that is what is currently happening. For the first time in my nine decades on planet earth, I am extremely disappointed at what I witness of Nation al Representatives. I am not the most intellectual person on the circuit; but words, process, pursuits, and motives which are now apparent—are diametrically opposed to methodology (and ethical balance); as has been stipulated by “sound government”. False statements are as common as sunrise; and taken in stride. I will defend the right of every American to disagree with policy and mannerism carried out—but I will also be just as eager to support the National CEO, in forming a policy that is just and successful. Only a hand ful of citizens are familiar with the intricate measures that are necessary within interna tional affairs. These past twenty four months have already proven an existing waste in dollars, deeds, and man hours. It would pay every American to read the desire of Americans from East to West—and discern what catastrophe will envelop the nation, should an actual Impeachment and removal of a chosen Presi dent happen. I’m not a prophet (nor the son of such)—but I sense a chaos would be forthcom ing, that no one in this great nation would invite.
