Five seek District 5 seat; two for BoE After deadline last week, Pat Kelly qualified for the District 5 Board of Commission seat. That makes five for that seat: Kelly, Thomas Collins, Dale Jump, Eddie Still and Darren Suggs. For the Board of Education Seat Caleb Adams and Joseph Sutton qualified. The called election for both seats is March 16th. In February we will will have 100 years of publishing The Georgia Post. Stay tuned for celebration information. UNITED WE3 STAND D ‘FAMILY* COUNTRY Despite the challenges of providing Christinas gifts for some deserving children during a pandemic, Kids Yule Love was a huge success and provided gifts for 138 children. “This Christmas miracle happened because of the kindness of our commu nity and many prayers,” said Katie Jones, organizer. This year when the direc tors, Clay and Katie Jones and other volunteers were diagnosed with COVID, an awesome group of volunteers stepped up and ran the pro gram with perfect precision. DeEllen, Matt, KK, Evan and Aaron Wood, Treena and Leah Hutcheson, Robert and Kellie Rozier, Gina Varner, Rhonda Harris, Kim Mclendon, Gwen Wilkey, Melessa Hollis, Donna Hen ley, Shannon West, David Shepherd, Daryl Baxley, Brad and Aloree Cawthon, Russell Whitehurst, Nelle Wingo, Bruce Fisher, Joe Romeo, Bill Patton and Kim Boyd made this possible. Without donations, Kids Yule Love would not be possible. Many people in our community reached out and donated to our children this year. Thank you A&W, A&W employees, Roberta City employees, Crawford County employees, Barn yard Auction and Barnyard Auction family, Donald J. McCowen, Knoxville Store, Carb Junky’s Dollar, em ployees of Atlanta Gas Light and Children and Women’s Thrift Store and the many anonymous donators. This year our Crawford County youth reached out to the children of our community. Members of the Musella Baptist Youth Group, lead by Jonathon Fisher, provided children’s Bibles with their favorite scripture written in the front. The middle school FFA and FCA collected and donated gifts. The Diamond Club, Young Farmers Club and The HOSA Club donated gifts. All children received beau tiful crocheted caps made by Gwen Wiley and Janice Mathews. Gwen also made jewelry for our children. Some of the children re ceived nice, warm blankets made by Gina Varner. “Thank you for everyone who helped bring joy to chil dren this year,” Jones said. “We greatly appreciate the Board of Directors of Camp Eunice for providing us a place for our project. Please forgive us if anyone has been overlooked due to Katie being unable to be there the entire time. Our commu nity’s love really shone at Christmas.” Even through trying times Kids Yule Love serves communitv’s children School construction moving right along Construc tion of the new mid dle/high school is still ahead of sched ule. It’s amazing to watch the progress each day as you ride by the site. |» \ Ai 1. 1 ) 0 _ Peaches to Beaches postponed Though it was originally announced, it would go on as planned, Peaches to the Beaches has been postponed to a later date. Peaches to the Beaches, is an event un der the Explore US Hwy 341, usually held the second Friday and Saturday in March, scheduled March 14 and 15 of this year is postponed until August 6 and 7. The deci sion was made during a virtual meeting of members. “We want to keep everyone safe,” Jim Sewell noted. “And the vaccine should be more widely in place. But we will also follow all Governor Kemp and CDC guidelines.” A majority of the counties or members of the Explore US Hwy. 341 expressed a desire to hold the event and after looking at dates from May through August they chose the August dates. Considering the time and what events were scheduled, the criteria, Peaches to the Beaches would have interference with other events before and after the said event. All of the members decided on the shirt sales and possibly hat sales again this year and as soon as color and design are in place, it will be announced. Please check your Peaches to Beach website and also the Peaches to the Beaches Facebook. Remember to continue to clean out draw ers, closets, garages, storage units and come have fun with all of Crawford County at Peaches to the Beaches on August 6-7 and set up as vendors. URMC is an option for vaccine Working in partnership with the Georgia Depart ment of Public Health, Upson Regional Medical Center has begun offering COVID-19 vaccinations to individuals eligible under the CDC/DPH Phase la defi nitions as follows: • Adults aged 65 and older • Law enforcement officers • Firefighters • First responders “Upson Regional is excited to expand our ability to vac cinate more of our middle Georgia population against COVID-19. We all look forward to the day when life seems normal again. Getting vaccinated is an important first step in achieving this. I believe the light at the end of this long tunnel is beginning to shine very brightly,” said Upson Regional Medical Center CEO Jeff Tarrant. URMC currently has supply of only Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine and at this point does not anticipate receiving Moderna or other vaccines. Clinical trials found the Pfiz er vaccine to be 95% effec tive in preventing COVID-19 cases, according to The New England Journal of Medi cine. The Pfizer vaccine must be given in two doses, with the second dose adminis tered 21 days following the first dose. Those eligible and interest ed in receiving the vaccine must be scheduled for an appointment. Due to the complexity of preparing this vaccine for administration, walk-ins will not be accom modated. All individuals desiring vaccination must review the FDA Fact Sheet on the vaccine and complete a COVID-19 consent form prior to their appointment time. These documents will be available on urmc.org and also on-site upon check in on the day of the appointment. Vaccinations will be given in the Upson Regional Medical Center Auditorium at 801W. Gordon St., Thomaston, GA. Parking will be available in the parking lot below the Auditorium entrance. Access into the vaccination clinic can only be through the Auditorium entrance. All other hospital entrances re main restricted at this time. Appointments may be scheduled by calling 706- 647-8111, ext. 1347. For more information on the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine, visit: https://www.cdc.gov/ coronavirus/20i9ncov/ vaccines/recommendations. html Supplemental Information for COVID-19 Vaccine Upson Regional Medical Center is asking COVID-19 vaccine recipients to fol low these steps so we may provide the vaccine in a safe environment, as efficiently as possible: •Vaccines will be given by appointment only, in the URMC Auditorium with entrance only through the Auditorium door; •At this time, URMC is authorized to vaccinate the public only under CDC/ Georgia DPH Phase ta guidelines as follow: o Individuals aged 65 and older o First responders o Fire fighters o Law enforcement person nel •Walk-ins will not be ac cepted; •Please wear short sleeves or loose-fitting clothes to facilitate administration of the vaccine. This injection is given in the upper arm; •Masks will be required to enter the Auditorium. If you do not have a mask, one will be provided; •The number of people in side the Auditorium will be limited to achieve necessary distancing; •Come to your vaccination appointment as close to the allotted time as possible to reduce the number of people in the waiting area You may be asked to wait outside or in your car if you are too early; •Individuals must remain in the URMC Auditorium post-vaccination for 15-30 minutes for observation; •Prior to vaccination, review of product-specific safety information and consent will be required; •At this time, URMC is administering only the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine. This requires two doses with the second dose given 21 days following the first. An appointment will be made for your second dose prior to leaving your first dose appointment. Due to high demand, we ask that everyone be patient as we schedule and adminis ter these vaccinations. We are providing this resource to our communities using existing staff during a time in which hospital patient volumes are very high due to the pandemic. While we want this to go smoothly, there will be glitches. We will work through these. Please be kind to our staff— they are working hard to protect you! Roberta Drugs is scheduling vaccina tion clinics at off site locations in Roberta as well so call them too at 478-836- 3515.
