If you haven’t noticed the
new speed radars in front
of the high school on East
Agency, you may want to slow
down during school hours.
Signs have been up for a few
weeks along with cameras.
Don’t expect an officer to
always issue a ticket, you will
receive it by mail.
Chief Ty Matthews stated
he didn’t care if they made a
dollar off the new radar cam
eras, it is for safety issues and
it works as long as we save a
child’s life. A list of roads for
radar was also amended by
council for the high school.
The city is still waiting on
GDOT for the approval of
cameras on Highway 80.
New digital radios have
been installed in all vehicles
along with the police depart
ment receiving portable radios
once they leave their vehicle.
Chief Matthews stated the
county should go digital by the
end of January or February
per the sheriff due to addition
al equipment the county has
to purchase.
Councilman Robert Cody
also advised council and
mayor on purchasing digital
cameras for crime scenes.
Cody stated if there is an
investigation and the officers
use their cell phones, the cell
phones could be taken as
evidence. Chief Matthews stat
ed the police department has
purchased a camera for every
vehicle and has been paid out
of the technology fees they
receive from court costs.
Jeff Harrison advised
council of the ARPA funds the
city has received is earmarked
for certain items the city can
spend the money towards.
Harrison stated his crew
could use the funds towards
items the city needs for water
and sanitation including the
option of purchasing a trailer
with a jetter (high pressure
water for leaning out sewer
lines) on a skid with a push
camera which would run
approximately $45,380 which
would save approximately
$25,000 purchasing it sepa
rately.
The other would be replac
ing the aerators original to
the plant which was quoted at
$27,000 each if the company
does it, and for the city to
purchase the floating aerators
would be $4,418 plus having
an electrician to change the
electrical. The decision would
come as a want verses a need
according to Mayor Andrews.
This was only given to
council as information since
the city has until 2026 to
spend the money. Harrison
advised council to see if the
prices come down in the next
12-18 months. No vote was
cast.
City employees will receive
their Christmas bonuses again
this year. Council voted for
bonuses to be sent out at the
first of December of $500 for
full time employees and $250
for part time employees.
Other items on the agenda
were:
• Recognizing the letter from
CCREA on the city showing
their support to the CCREA
for the year.
• Landscaping is changing
at the City Hall thanks to the
Crawford County Schools
JROTC and Beta Club
• House demo next door to
City Hall has been finished
• Recreational Trails Pro
gram is a reimbursement
grant and will not be sub
mitting an application for
the grant at this time. The
city will be prepared for the
next submission according to
Mayor Andrews for extending
a walking trail within the city.
• Mayor and Council will
continue a discussion on add
ing a park for the community.
• Council approved the
Roberta Crawford County
Chamber of Commerce to
hold their Annual Christmas
Parade through downtown
Roberta along with the ven
dors in the park and other
activities which will be held on
December 4th.
• Mayor Andrews advised
council members the city
needs to participate and
represent the city at commu
nity meetings. He stated the
city needs to be a part of the
community/county.
• The city also did not
qualify for a CDBG grant for
water improvements due to
not scoring enough for the
project.
Childres retiring from RH next month
RobertaHpusing.org
Freddy Childres began with
Roberta Housing Authority
in March of 1996. During
that time he has witnessed
many changes. One of them
is people coming and going
more in the complex. That
means repainting and re
pairing before someone else
moves in is a never ending
job for the Maintenance su
pervisor and employees.
It has also become harder
to keep up with the constant
ly changing regulations.
The thing he has enjoyed is
that he works close to home
and working with the people.
He is retiring December 16th
of this year with 26 and a
half years at Roberta Hous
ing so he can do the things
he wants to do like golfing
and fishing.
Upon retirement he plans
to enjoy life whenever he can
with his wife Sherri and their
son, daughter, seven grand
children and three great
grandchildren. He is leaving
his position in the capable
hands of Danny Austin.
