THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 10, 2022 THE GEORGIA POST 3 In the nick of time The date was 14 March 1953- Perry High was playing Clarkston for the state basketball champi onship. Screaming fans occupied every seat in Macon’s City Auditorium. Many stood in the aisles. With 1: 40 remaining, Perry led by two points. Its taller and talented opponent threatened to take the lead. Having practiced basketball since grammar school to meet that chal lenge, I asked God for strength to play my best in the most important game of my life. At that moment, Perry Coach Eric Staples, the winnin- gest coach in Amer ica, signaled a time out. Being the master strategist, Coach Staples’ countenance radiated confidence. He instructed us to run a 3-man weave out front with the two forwards positioned near the sidelines to free up the middle. After sev eral weaves, the middle opened and I drove for the basket. At that moment, forward Jackie Miller broke free toward the goal. I passed Jackie the ball and he scored, moving Perry ahead by 4 points. Coach Staples knew the weave would imitate a deep freeze and prompt Clarkston to foul attempting to regain the ball. Clarkston’s fouling resulted in Perry’s players cashing in at the foul line. When the final horn blew, Perry had prevailed over an outstanding Clarkston team by 6 points to win the state title. God’s help came in the ‘nick of time’ through the coaching genius of Coach Staples. The Bible contains parallels in which God acted in the ‘nick of time.’ In Genesis 22, God tested Abraham’s faithfulness by requesting him to sacri fice his son, Isaac, on the altar at Mount Moriah. Be fore Abraham could drive his knife through Isaac’s heart, an Angel of the Lord stayed his hand. In stantly, God placed a ram in the thicket for the sacrifice. Another is Daniel 6. Since Daniel’s daily prayers violated a royal decree, Daniel was thrown into a lions’ den. In the ‘nick of time’ the mouths of the lions were shut and Daniel was unharmed. God requested Jonah to witness to the people of Nineveh, but Jonah re fused. In defiance, Jonah boarded a ship sailing forTarshish. God sent a razing storm at sea that threatened the ship. After Jonah’s confession that he had offended God, the crew threw Jonah overboard. Suddenly the storm ceased. Then God sent a big fish to swallow Jonah. After three days in the fish’s belly, Jonah told God he would go to Nineveh. In return, God caused the fish to vomit Jonah onto the shore (Jonah 1-4). In Exodus 14, the Israelites were fleeing Egyptian captivity. Pharoah and his armies were in hot pursuit. Trapped by the Red Sea, God instructed Moses to stretch forth his staff. This caused the waters to part, leaving a dry bottom for the Israelites to cross. After the Israelites reached the other side, the Egyptian army charged after them. Suddenly, God brought the walls of water back together, and the Egyp tians drowned. Another event that happened in the ‘nick of time’ was the coming of Jesus. Galatians 4: 4 states that “in the fullness of time,” God sent His Son to redeem sinners and restore their broken relationship with God. Revelation 3: 20 states that this same Jesus stands knocking at the door of your heart. Open the door and let Him in! BILLY POWELL Is an author and a contributing columnist. I am finding it neces sary to place all parties on Notice! I am up to my armpits with decla ration and information surrounding COVID, and it’s ninth generation of a supposed supervi sion! No sane person has dismissed the tragedies of a global infestation, and the unintended conse quence of a dramatic experiment. I may miss the mark on a viable definition for the unthinkable di lemma handed down from soiled minds and hands—but I make no apology for the scandalous “flow and woe” of parasitic profes sionals who trouble my corner. ENOUGH AL READY! I have had my shots—I have consumed my peas—and —I have colored within the lines; and just as I surmised from the git-go—there has been no relief. The jabber never ceases—the pontification infiltrates every waking moment; and the heresy is as putrid as ever. We, as living, breathing, Amer ican mortals have been programmed for better days. It’s OK to grow up—not Give in! Tomor row may arrive without common courtesy—but for now; I am “through with the view”! Count me as a mav erick, a belligerent no body—a inconsiderate, hard headed non-con formist if it makes your day—but stay out of my way, my theme, and my catalog of hanging tight! I will not be intimidated by those ‘G' Factor Daniel W. Gatlyn who have missed the mark a thousand differ ent ways concern ing lock downs, man dates, and manage ment-pulling the “wool over my eyes:, and masks over my nose. “ I am divorcing all insidi ous communication with political and scientific mis-fits—and will form my own opinions on the “wherefores and whatnots”. I am a law abiding citizen, and will cooperate with judicially equipped formulas—but I will not be a satisfied customer of proponents of pernicious points of plunder. I am not a fan of “Fauci, Botchi, or Notchi—nor CDC, NHA, WHO, or other assorted “think tanks”. I can grow my own worms. Let’s get very real, Buttercup! I have grown extremely weary with the sway of the fray within a million con fused minds—and have been disenfranchised from civilization, and an honest shake on matters. At this point, it matters little wheth er such direction was committed through error, misjudgment, or flagrant violation. The entire curriculum has introduced an unhinged calculation and may hem. Just how many have died, have suffered untold grievance, and malfeasance will nev er be determined. The uncouth practice of bacteriological warfare (notwithstanding the possibilities thereof) would not have rendered a different outcome! The occupants of Amer ican real estate (and the world) have been taken to the cleaners. Hopeful ly there will be a wel come “turn around” to a reckless methodology versed in personal gain. The damage inflicted is irreparable, and is unforgivable. So my message to the pundits is TAKE A HIKE! DAN GATLYN is a USN retired/minister/journalist and contributing columnist.
