er* are' still complaining of a failure
to get advanues necessary to make a
crop this year. We heard of one
farmer the other day who said that
ho had tried every town within 20
miles of him and failed to get credit,
and that bo would be forced to turn
his stock put to graze, . Bad colloo-
tiohii last'fail have placed the mer

commodate their best customers. The
merchants of Arlington are in uo bet

yet they have determined to givo all
the relief they can, by selling goods

La Grippe.
No healthy person need fear any dan
gerous consequences from an attack of
la grippe if properly treated. It is much
the same as a severe cold and requires
precisely the same treatment. Remain
quietly at home and take Chamberlain’s
Cough Remedy as directed for a severe
cold and a prompt and complete recov
ery la sure to follow. This remedy also
counteracts any tendency of la grippe to
result in pneumonia. Among the many
thousands who have used it during the
epidemics of the past two years we have
yet to learn of a single case that has not
recovered or that has resulted in pneu
monia. 85 and 60 coni bottles for sale

Belote, Cecil,
Chili has at last come down to
common sense and reason and the
prospects of war have vanished. The
Chilean government sent a reply to
the ultimatum of the United States.
The reply is in effect as follows:
Chili agrees to withdraw the offensive
note sent by Scnor Matte to all Chil
ian ministers abroad, and acknowl
edges that its issuance was due to an
orror of judgment. Chili also with
draws its request for withdrawal of
United States Mini-tor Egan. In
addition to this, the Chilean gov- rn-
month) its answer, proposes that
the affair of tho attack on tho Balti
more sailors in Valparaiso bo sub
mitted to the arbitration of aomo
neutral nation. If this proposition
is not acceptable to tile United
States government, the Chilean gov
ernment suggests that the matter bo
subnr.tted to the decision of the sit-
preme court of tho United States.
Cough Following the drip.
Many persons, who have recovered
from la grippe, are now troubled with
persistent cough. Chamberlain's Cough
Remedy will promptly loosen this cough
and relieve the lungs, effecting a perma
nent cure in a very short time. 25 and
50 cent bottles tor sale by the Tlfton
Drug Store, and Peters & Belote, Cecil
HORTICULTURAL COLUMN.
By Dr. J. F> WiLaox.
Horticulture.
This sclohce, practically applied, is
deserving of our attention. The cul
ture of fruits, flowers and garden
products are all embraced under this
beading. The purpose of this column
ia to give such information, instruc
tion, and warning, that our people
may be prompted to improve their
circumstances and surroundings, and
be enabled to avoid errors and pitfalls
which tho novice will enoounter. We.
shall aim to be practical, rather than
theoretical; instructive, instead of
argumentative, and unless we have
something to say, wilt refrain from
saying anything.
TUB GAUDK.V.
A garden requires soil, Season,
labor and good scud. Presuming that
suitable patch of soil can bo had,
we need to be assured that tho neoos-
aary labor will be performed in due
time. The season will soon bo forth-
coming, and lost, but not least, good
seed is very important. As the seed
should soon be in hand, and as the
success or failure of garden opera
tions is largely dependent on the
quality of seed used, it becomes
very important feature of the work.
Witli poor seed wo cannot expect suc
cess ; with good, fresh seed, tho other
essentials become subservient to our
will. How shall we obtain good seed ?
By patronizing only the mostreliable
dealers who will guarantee their seed
to bo fresh and true to name. There
is much in the seed trade that
simply a delusion and a snare. Thous
ands of packages of seed are sent
out every year that nre of uncertain
age, and no one can tell by the looks
of a seed how old it may be, while
the only test is actual germination.
It is well worth while to spend time
and money to have good seed, since
our money, labor and anticipations are
all in vain if wo tiavo spent our money
for unreliable seed. Procure your
scod at onee, and later we may have
something to say about planting and
cultivation.
A lie in the heart ia as block as it is
in a horse trade.
When a man starts out to reform
himself he has undertaken a job that
will keep him busy for lifo.
Tho hardest worked people in the
world are those who are trying to get
to heaven by the “work-your-passage”
route.
