WHITE CAPS IN WORTH COUNTY.
Visit s Moll mad Woman nnd Hoot Thom
Unmercifully Wllh Twisted Hoiks.
Auiasv, Febra.ary 5.—From Mr.
Aim Champion, Of Worth county,
who was in the city to-day, your cor
respondent learned of the operations
of a band of white caps who have
undertaken to punish all who come
under their displeasure..
Some time since a farmer by tho
name of Thomas Ireland and his
wife fell out and separated. Ireland
left his spouse in ‘ possession of their
home, and went himself to live in
the tenant house on the . premises.
While residing there Ireland secured
the services of Miss Josephine Cham
pion as lus cook and housekeeper,
arid Reomed to be getting on very
satisfactorily to himself, when on the
uight of the 23rd of JajAiary, while
lie was siek, ho was visited by the
regulators, who, lieiiuf denied admit
tance, broke the doyf down with a
fence rail, and, rjdshing in, throw
light wads of cotton saturated with
kcroseno bn tlte-floor.
Ireland was polled, out of bed,
and witli Mis/ Champion, was taken
to a branch somo distance away, and
subjected to a torriblo beating.
Twelvo men struck him twelve blows
each, with a plow line doubled four
times. Ho was then knockocL inson-
siblo with a heavy walking stick.
Tho mol) thon attempted to denude
Miss Champion, preparatory to giv
ing her a similar dose, but stout re-
sistatice and loud screams brought
assistance from several neighbors,
whose advent upon the scene caused
the white caps to decamp, not, how
ever, before thoy had given Irolaud
warning to return to the bed and
board of his wifo within ten days,
leave the country, or bo killed.
Ireland chose the seoond alterna
tive and came to. Albany last Mon
day night, in his Night from tho ven
geance of tlie white cops. It is said
he was literally flayed alive, and it
was with tho greatest difficulty he
accomplished his departure, owing to
his bruised and bleeding oomiitMti.
It is said that tho men who com
posed tho mob were recognised by
both Ireland and Miss Champion,
and thoy are to be prosecuted to the
full extent of the law by Miss Cham,
pion’s large family connection. The
scene of tho outrage was in the
southwest eorncr of Worth county,
near the lino of Colquitt:
La Grippe.
No healthy person need fear any dam
gerous consequences from an atlook of
la grippe if properly treated: It is much
tha same as a severe cold And requires
precisely the samo treatment. Itemalu
quietly at homo and take Chamberlain's
Cough Kcmody as dlrcctod tor a severe
cold and a prompt and complete recov
ery is sure to follow. This remedy also
counteracts any tendency of la grippe to
result in pneumonia. Among the many
thousands who have used It during the
epidemics of the post two years we bavo
yet to learn of a single case that has not
recovered or that has resulted In pneu
monia. 85 and 50 cent bottles tor sale
