A Queer Freeze.
Air. IV. W. Thompson, the propri
etor of the LeConte Nursery at
-Smith vilio, says the effect of the
freeze last month, which killed near
ly all the LeConte pears, was the
queerest lie ever knew in his years of
experience. A week aftor the freeze
lie carefully examined the blooms on
the trees ami found a large propor
tion of the fruit uninjured. The
pears grew until they were the size
of peas, when they fell off. An ex
amination of them disclosed the fact
that the pears were yet perfectly
sound, but tlio stems which held them
had been frozen, which caused them
to fall off.—Fu Valloy leader.
