An Old (iiTcnbarkcr Give* HI* Views on
tho Third l'arty Question.
Being an old, gi-eunha'oker, I ani
naturally in hearty sympathy with
tho third party movement, so far as
it is practical, but no further, and
observation line taught me that hut
two national parties are at- any time
■praotioal in this oouqtry. All otliers
expend their energy to the defeat of
thcmeelvps in their mad efforts to
down their frionds. Allies', whoso
better judgment and experience has
shown them the folly and hopeless
ness of numerous issues in one cam
paign, though, in other respects, their-
views and objects are similar.
Hence I am surprised that so many
intelligent persons can be duped into
the belief that the people’s party, as
a national party, will be able to ac
complish more than the defeat of the
democratic party at most, and in so
doing defeat itself with all its issues.

to Dan Talmage’s Sons bulletin, is in

season of growth is rapidly merging
into harvest time and planters are
about to reap the fruit of their labors
and justify their faith in this cereal.
In the Carolina* the growth during
the last month has been so rapid that
the largest crop since tho war is now

this issue both the third aiid demo
cratic party will find the wedge that
not only splits the protection log, but
opens up the way to readjustment of
tho.monoy system and the final suc
cessful culmination of all the just de
mands. This first accomplished the
other issues follow naturally and
easily.
The tariff is tho prop which hol
sters up the pernicious money power
and which, if not repealed, will
strengthen it in the future as it has
hi the past.
I warn my countrymen, honest
men that they arc; that this is the
last timc'that they are likely to have
an opportunity to oven.secure tho re
peal of the tariff. If they do not.
succeed not, because of lack of' con

their righteous indignation upon the

•The one practical thing for the
dtjjjd party to do, if they desire their
own anil the national welfare, is to
ithandon the idea of a national party
and vote solidly for the democratic
electors and thus, by securing a dem
ocratio administration, secure once
more the expression of tho popular
will in law. It is fully time that they
should look this issue squarely in the
face and' not be deceived or dooieve
themselves with the fascinations of
ideality, which, like the fitful mirage
of the west, recedes as rapidly as you
approach it.
%ei. them realize that but one issue
at a time is practical in this great
and growing country, and even that
often requires a protracted period to
become enacted into law, because of
the peculiar construction of oar in

the other, and thus defeat popular

Wherever a .third party speaker
appears in Georgia there should bo n
democrat ready, to meet him. If pos
sible he should meet him on tho B»rao
stump. If not ho should answer him
at the very first opportunity. The
third party managers are sending
tlioir speakers to every part of tho
state. They are misrepresenting is
sues and preaching frilso doctrine.
The people should havo a chance
everywhere to hoar tho truth and
know just what democracy is con
lending for. Wo do not believe
there is a county in Georgia which
docs not contain democrats who are
able and willing the meet any third
parly apostle who may come along.
Wherever there have been joint dis
cussions in this campaign uniformly
resulted in the routing of the third
party agitators. We believe that
this will he tho case everywhere in
Georgia because the argument is ov
erwhelmingly on the sido of the dem
ocrats. What we want to do is to
got the facts before tho people. No
third party orator must escape unan
swered. It is easy enough to an
swer tho boat ol the lot.
In this matter the county demo
uratic organizations can do valuable
service. In fact it depends on them
whether or not there shall bo a dem
oerat to meet and answer every third
party harangue. They alone can in
sure this dorirnblo result. By doing
so they will contribute largely to the
cause of democracy mid help to swell
tho democratic majority in Georgia.
We appeal to the county commit
tees to begin this important work at
